DStv dropping the ball on video streaming problems

DStv patches its streaming apps in October 2021 to improve user experience, but the updates appeared to create more problems than they fixed, and the issues are ongoing.

Customers have taken to social media and the Google Play Store to voice their frustration relating to various issues, including freezing streams, quality problems, and an inability to wirelessly cast to their TVs.

I find it hard to believe that the app can still be so bad. It must surely be harder for them to make it be this bad than to make the thing actually work for a change. Embarrassing.

I have 2 Hisense tv’s. One Android and the other is Vidaa system. The app is c**p on both of them. Streaming is constantly interrupted. Them start’s from where you joined the program. The guide seldom updates. “No information available” is what shows. Appears they haven’t a clue how to create an app that works properly.
I love this comment from the CEO. Rose coloured glasses I think.

“Notably, despite threats to boycott the broadcaster after it announced the streaming limit, MultiChoice CEO Calvo Mawela said limiting DStv streaming to one device worked well

This is the superb quality of their tv guide. Fast and the Furious 8 was on screen but the guide said it was John wick, and the description was for the new Casino Royale with the image from the old one. How does cr@p like this get passed? If DSTV took their fingers out of their P0eph0ls when streaming first started out they would be in a completely different position. It's a pity, it used to be a great overpriced service, now it's an overpriced piece of garbage. inbound787801534724445922.jpg

Problem is once you've run a monopoly for so long you don't care about innovation. I honestly cannot watch linear TV anymore unless it's sports. This is what DSTV does not realise!

And they never will. Our concerns here and on social media are not really that concerning, just mildly irritating. Through their optics they fine and we just need to pipe down.

I've recently watched an episode of Carte Blanche. Haven't watched it in 5 years since I've downgraded. The quality and content of that show and the presenting has deteriorated. Derek Watts had chemistry with Devi. Now the presenters feel forced onto another. It was once a show that you looked forward to on a Sunday evening. Now you don't even need to bother about it because the stories aren't that good!

The latest problem we have is it can't tell you what's showing on a channel.
So you have to randomly pick a channel and see what's on (or use the DSTV guide online which also sucks)

I was trying to stream on the samsung tv dstv app last night and 90% of the channels couldn't even display what program was showing on the channel. It would just say "No information available". The streaming worked perfectly except for 1 instance where it displayed the error about something went wrong and that it could be due to multiple streams blah blah

I hate it when people make statements like this, which is clearly a lie: “Our technical team has been and will continue to work around the clock to resolve the issues”. Round the clock means 24 hours per day.
If they are working so hard and it's not fixed yet, then it is a serious indictment against their competence.

Haha. They dropped the ball over 10 years ago thinking they controlled the people in the market.
whoopsie landed on the wrong hotel xD

Well maybe they should back off streaming. They wanted it to be illegal anyways.

Still not working on Linux either. The only change over the last year is that the error message changed from "Something went wrong..." to something about too many streams.
The foot shooting continues.
