Hi,

I am slowly making the switch to Ubuntu for as many things as I can.
I am having a problem with two monitors side by side, a brief description outlined below.

- I am using a Samsung 24" Display through VGA out (Native res. 1920x1080)
- I am using the screen of my Toshiba Notebook (Native res. 1280x800)
- Ubuntu 11.04 Natty
- Windows 7 Pro

When I try use the screens at once (ie. extended desktop mode), it works great in windows 7, but in Ubuntu (11.04 Natty) when i configure them side by side I get this error:

"The selected configuration for displays could not be applied"
"requested position/size for CRTC 147 is outside the allowed limnit: position=(1920,0). size=(1280,800), maximum=(1920,1920)"

I assume this means the OS allows maximum desktop space 1920x1920, which means that I can use both displays if I stack them on top of one another (quite annoying, counter-intuitive to drag a window down, onto a display situated on the right, specifically when i have been dragging them right for two years in windows).

Is there a way to change or bypass this, and if so will it make the system unstable. Surely this cannot be a design limitation is a day and age where more and more people are using dual-monitor systems.
