Dumping Windows Phone. Where to now?

How can you even comment if by your own admission your using an outdated OS (WP7.8)?

WP8.1 is a very, very diffierent user experience.

That is why i mentioned its 7.8, because im not sure how big the difference between 7.8 and 8 is, if its like Android 4.2 and 4.4, then its basically farkall. Checking YouTube vids of WP8, it looks extremely similar to 7.8

i'm getting my work phone (Lumia 1320) today, then i can give a proper review.

7.8 to 8.1 is like ginger bread to Kit Kat (just a tad exaggerating maybe). Whole lot better though.

Yip,
I'll give a review of the phone in the following week, little busy at the moment. from my experience this far, 8.1 is indeed much better than 7.8.
I'm pretty sure i read somewhere 8.1 will have the option to create folders, which i'm not able to do, will still read up on that though.

You can create folders on 8.1.1 which is currently in the developer preview except some 930s which got the official update recently and those phones that come preinstalled with 8.1.1.

This function will be in WP8.1 Update 1(GDR1/WP8.1.1 call it what you must) and/or Lumia Denim which is due soon.
Update 1 is already being pushed out to the 930s in UK, but does not include the Lumia Denim Firmware.

Get Windows 8.1, it's much faster than Windows 7 and you can by pass the metro interface if you don't like it.

No, it isnt, especially not if you use a SSD drive.

And gaming is much smoother with Windows 7. I had Windows 7, 8 & 8.1 and so happy to be back on Windows 7.

Why use a tablet UI on a desktop/notebook computer? Does it make sense at all? Think about it. ;)

What's so bad about the 8.1 UI?

I found it to be much faster on my laptop. 8.1 Pro definitely felt much faster than 7 Pro

Metro apps that run full screen, but on the desktop, it runs in normal window......an OS that doesn't really know what it is.

Well, Microsoft has dumped Windows 8 and moving on to Windows 10, but if you just refuse to let go, keep on singing Windows 8's praises. ;)

There's always that one person who just don't get it & will keep arguing until he/she is blue in the face. :D

Sorry what? You haven't explained what's wrong with the UI.

For those stuck with IE issues, try out Maxthon. I have it running on my Lumia 1320 and it's really great.

You can't compare Android & Windows Phone. It's not the same by any means. Each system is unique. I love using both equally.

Hi everyone

Sorry to interrupt your Windows 7/Windows 8 war. About that. I'm on 7 Ultimate. I figured I'm going to skip 8 and go directly to 10 when it launches. I tried the preview and it's awesome. Unfortunately I'm doing MCSA at CTU next year, and they require Windows 8.1 so I'm going to have to use that. IT college haters, move along please. CTU isn't one of the bad guys. As for the rest though, especially CTi, I'd rather go earn minimum wage with just matric before considering them.

Back to Windows Phone. I still have my Lumia 520. Yes, f*** me. I still hate it. I really wasn't happy with the options on Android for the price. But something amazing has come along, and now I'm finally getting rid of this phone. It's still for sale if anyone is interested. Great condition, well looked after, was never used for any nefarious purposes, etc. R999.99, all costs, including courier costs, included. PM me if you're interested. I have a metric s**t-load of accessories for it that I'll throw in too.

Anyway the phone that caught my attention is the Motorola Moto G. No, not the original G 4G. That one is too expensive for me. I'm talking about the Moto G 2nd Edition / 2014 edition. Orange sells it for R2700 and guys... Quick, open a new tab, google search Motorola Moto G 2014, open the GSMArena result, look at the specs, stare in awe. It's an amazing piece of tech with an unbelievable price tag. I'm buying one as soon as I write my last Matric exam paper. I tend to get very distracted for a week with new tech and a huge distraction right at the start of the exam might prove disastrous as maths and physical sciences are some of my first papers.

My 520 is still on Developer Preview, just updated to Lumia Cyan and the latest DP updates. If anyone has questions about that, ask away.

Would you part with the accessories? If so, what are they?
