Durbanville ADSL Users (Your feedback needed)

I am also on the 021 975 exchange and experience very high latency, especially at night...

Speedtest ping test fluctuates between 150ms and 1000ms to MWEB server...
My WOW latency is also very high at night( 850ms or higher )...

I am a MWEB 4mb ADSL premium subscriber...
I also tried an Afrihost capped account, and the experience was not any better...
I been experiencing this for the past couple of weeks...

No idea. Who is your ISP?

I've got 3 ISP's (WebAfrica, Openweb and Axxess) and 2 routers. Same damn issue on every one of them.

200+ ms on the second hop when running an MTR - sometimes 1000 or higher. Then it'll be fine for an hour or so before starting again. Infuriating.

Yeah, I just mailed them this MTR:

Doubt they'll do much, but I'll keep trying.

Sonstraal heights ... ADSL is unusable, ping spikes to 1000 (saix speed test to Cape Town) with very slow DL speeds.

I'm in Kleinbron Estate, just over the hill from Sonstraal Heights. Also been have terrible issues for months now. Was on a 1meg line with Telkom and it became unusable. After numerous faults logged and them not doing ANYTHING about it, I decided to upgrade to 4meg last week. They switched me over about a week ago and nothing really changed. Internet still mostly unusable. I do regular speedtests. Ping always around 30ms. Down speed mostly under 1meg, never over 2 meg. Down speed sometimes as bad as 0,02meg. Been phoning Telkom again all week and they say there is apparently some problem at the exchange. Not sure if I believe them, but what can I do other than wait?

Last night was so sad... such bad pings. I believe there is a telkom number we can phone to log a refund for poor service??

Mine is great at the moment

Test conducted on 07 June 2013 8:54:03 AM SAST

Download Speed: 3561 kbps (445.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 3480 kbps (435 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 36 ms

Oh yes, that's right, I dropped Telkom and can't be happier.

Only had speeds like that my first month with Afrihost at the new place (May), since June, bleh

This is not on a Telkom line / ADSL connection at all. I cancelled everything and went with a WISP, hence the 4mb up and down speeds.

I am a late addition to this chat and would also like to share my frustration at the exchange in Goedemoed (cnr Groenberg Rd and Brackenfell Blvd - near PnP Graanendal.) Yesterday when we all suffered the national outage my router came up approx 20 minutes later and authenticated just fine. As soon as my router was up I headed over to Speetest to perform some tests because my poor ISP seems unable to solve the riddle of poor throughput:

Just after re-authentication:

And at 22:45 same evening:

Even after sending the various tests to them as proof of a congested exchange they still seem to be suffering from the "Ostrich Syndrome." My only glimps of hope is that these shiny new white 40Mbs boxes will be turned on soon.

Spoke to Telkom tech guys this morning while taking a walk with the SO. They were busy working on the box on the corner of Verdi and Momento. Apparently 40Mbps VSDL will be available around September.

i see the telkom guys are working hard at getting that MSAN up across the road from the graanendal pick n pay.

i wonder how much longer it might be...
