I'm in The Crest next to Graanendal, so not sure which exchange I'm on, but I'll phone Telkom tomorrow and log a fault.

Update: Logged the fault. Apparently the Goedemoed exchange has an area fault logged as well. Congestion etc.

hi guys,

yes still experiencing congestion.

It seems a few of us are on the same DSLAM here since I see people mentioning them digging holes and laying cement for a new box, which is happening across the Pick n Pay on the corner.

According to the lady on the phone this morning, its the, Goedemoed - The Crest, DSLAM that has the status of, 'Under Maintenance' that I am connected to, I assume you guys are too.

I have also recieved my credit off of my bill for this and I have raised another dispute with them for this months bill. I am planning on doing it until this problem is fixed. I hope you guys are also doing this, it might make someone take note. Hopefully they will plan ahead in the future... lol.. yeah...

Lino - nice one for keeping this alive. Thank you.

I've been having terrible congestion issues the last couple of weeks. I'm on the 021 979 durbanville exchange.

Been logging faults with Telkom to try and get them to budge. Would be good if everyone here with problems did the same. If enough of us give them a hard time they might actually do something.

Other thing I wanted to know: Where exactly is congestion normally found? Is it in the exchange (what does the exchange look like?) itself or more closer to your home i.e. blue telkom boxes in the residential areas ( I assume these boxes are the first hop in a tracert?)

Hey,

Are these DSLAMS the blue boxes I mention in my post? Aren't they supposed to be replaced by MSAN's and do you know if this is the reason they are doing maintenance on them?

TIA

Hi Reaver,

Yes it seems they have the DSLAM equipment on the side of the road, in white'ish or blue/green boxes. I might be wrong.. Phone equipment in the blue/green and DSL equipment in the white'ish/grey boxes.

One would pressume they are installing their latest equipment(MSAN) and then migrate some of the subs to the new box to releave congestion.

The MSAN would have both equipment in one box, POTS & DSL

TIA?

Is this TIA from HoN?

TIA=thanks in advance :)

Well lets hope these issues are due to maintenance/upgrades in the area and nothing permanent. It's the first time I've been having these issues so here's to hoping for the best.

It's just super frustrating if you can't get 'n clear answer from telkom as to what is going on and if they are actually doing something about it.

hehe ok, ur nic and the TIA thing seemed familiar from a game, Heroes of Newerth. :P

Its very frustrating and completely backwards to keep people in the dark as to what the progress is on situations.

The thing is, if they dont give us deadlines/updates, they cannot be held accountable. What they do not realise is that it gives us, the subscriber, "the impression" that something is being done. Instead of a bunch of mumbling/fumbling call centre agents that make us angrier because it seems like nobody knows what is going on.

They just have to be open and honest about what they are doing, it would save their staff the hassle of having to deal with a bunch of angry, uninformed subscribers. Resulting in them having more time to deal with problems they are able to help with over the phone.. blablabla. mense moet wakker word.

I am on the same exchange and having endless problems. I have logged so many tickets, they eventually just told me truth, which is that the exchange is congested and that there is no time frame for the upgrade. It's still in planning stages apparently. So that can mean anything from a couple of months to a couple of years ...

Just a note my exchange is 021 979 as well (The Crest) and as per Telkom it will be resolved by end of May 2013

I would take that date with a good wallop of salt ...

Same here but it took a great deal of effort to even get a date out of them

Yeah I can also hope, but it's very strange that both you and I got totally different answers. They basically told me, sorry, no upgrades, and it's still in planning stages.

I hope the person who promised you the date just didn't say that to get you off their back.

Working from home, I require a stable connection. I am currently trailing one of the WISPS.

Did you talk to the call centre? After I hounded Telkom for about two weeks with constant faxes, emails to head office one of the "management" team contacted me directly.

Not to mention they are turning Durbanville into one of the new fibre Exchange's so I am inclined to believe them that it will happen this year.

Which WISP are you trailing?

Have you got a reference number for that? :D

Will give more detail regarding the WISP at the end of the trial.

Last few days have been awful. So sick and tired of this

Just some info for guys affected by this. We've gotten some feedback from Telkom on this exchange.

There is congestion on the DSLAM, with heaviest affected times between 6pm and 2am. An upgrade has been requested, but there is no ETA as to when the upgrade will be scheduled, as it has already been upgraded in Feb 2013.

We'll post more info as soon as we have it.
