Now obviously I've been told all the usual excuses (its your ISP, its your router, etc) but it simply isn't. I've tested 3 routers, 3 ISP's and Telkom says there's no physical fault with my line. Which leaves me with the joy of accepting that there is absolutely stuff all I can do about it. I'm a system administrator who has to work on servers in Europe - at this point I see it as a personal victory if I actually manage to connect to one. Yes, I know we are all in the same boat here, but I just thought I might feel better if I actually post here to rant about it. So much for paying for a 4mb line and uncapped account, eh?

Interesting. I am in the 021 976 range, but mine looks fairly good tonight... so far. Wonder what they are plotting...

I am on the 021 976 I had terrible latency last night, (25-04-13) Dota 2 was unbearable, latency jumping from 10 - 800ms

Just popping to say, I'll be staying active in only ADSL section of this forum. Especially Afrihost and Durbanville users.

Thank you Afriman,

You say it has already been upgraded in Feb 2013? are you sure? When I asked them about it back then they too told me it has been upgraded, I said its impossible, they must have made a mistake. After they looked through the tickets they saw the old ticket was closed and labelled as resolved and upgraded, but they actually just created a new ticket for it since it had to go to another department...

Strangely enough tonight my latency is low and stable, then again, I am home on a Saterday evening.

Same here

Telkom Speed test server using guest account:
Download speed: 711 kbps (88.9 KB/sec)
Upload speed: 392 kbps (49 KB/sec)
Latency: 437 ms

Getting good download speeds and upload speeds yet latency up to 1000ms. If I put a steam download on I can also max my download speed (~100KB/s - 1 meg line)

Hi

On the 979 exchange.
Yesterday (Sunday 28 April 2013) was terrible! Latency 1200 to 1896ms! Download speed (on 2Mbps line) as slow as 0.12 Mbps.
Monday morning (29 April 2013) latency 22ms and speeds 1.76 Mbps.
If this weekend and after work situation does not improve substantially soon I shall go with one of the 3G offerings.

Karl

Karl, 3G is as bad. I moved to adsl because of congested 3G in the area. It could be related, not sure.

Cell C 3g is most reliable from what I experienced.

I gave up arguing with Vodacom about 3G reception. And now on CellC I can only get Edge.

Lol true I put the CellC dongle in the Vodacom poynting arial they put in. Then I get decent speeds.

For what it might be worth....I talked to a Telkom rep today and according to him the 979 exchange is scheduled for an upgrade and should be done end of the month (May). I specifically asked if this will be a matter of weeks or months and he said it SHOULD be within the next 2 to 4 weeks. (He sounded pretty clued up compared to some of the other people I've talked to)

Think someone else here also mentioned something about the upgrades that will be done end of May.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Any new info on this issue, perchance? I'm on the 021 975 exchange and its almost getting worse, not better. :(
