i wonder how much longer it might be...

Have you seen the amount of wires and diagrams? :)

Escalated my complaint about unusable internet speeds on weekend / after work hours. Had reply today from: Escalation Centre Advisor 2 Martha Masilo -

"Good Morning

The case was escalated to internet support and it was revealed that the Dslam is congested as per mail below. Unfortunately time frame not yet given.

Regards

Thanks"

Not sure what Telkom fixed but adsl seems to be good since yesterday evening, atleast getting good pings.

Then guess what happened, now Telkom wants to call to send a technician out and "repair" my line after all my complaints for months now.

Yes there are options available.

Here is my speedtest on mybroadband

Download Speed: 3769 kbps (471.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 5762 kbps (720.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 35 ms

And on speedtest.net

I have had no more ADSL line or Telkom rental from the 1st of this month, and I have not been happier.

Do your research and let the WISP's come and do a site test to see how strong signal you have. I chose Kawuleza because of the pricing model of the 4mb uncapped ( Which worked out R20 cheaper than my 4mb ADSL uncapped service I had )

How are you guys finding things? Saw some Telkom vans parked there by Graanendal last night, as I came back from a long weekend away. Had to reboot my router. Things seem to be running very nicely. Streamed some hi-res stuff last night and my fiance says her downloads are very fast today. Will do a speed test later today...

Had a call from Telkom tech support yesterday saying they are busy upgrading, should be complete in a month. They were waiting on equipment.

Having fast speeds were never the problem, having consistent fast speeds were. Let's hope.

Yeah, but fast speeds were never the norm for me. Was mostly slow... with 480p buffering badly on a 2Mbps line. Seems much better and stable now. Fingers crossed!

Last Monday I got an sms saying my fault was fixed, so I smsed back to say it wasn't as my speeds were still stuck at 2.5mbps. Telkom phoned on Tuesday saying they're still upgrading, next 2-3 months... Which is what they said 3 months ago.

Just now I received a phone call from a Nicholas at Telkom and had a long chat. He says the congestion fault was logged in Feb and resolved in May. They upgraded from 11.2mbps to 12.mbps. I'm assuming he meant megabyte per second not megabit... No further upgrades planned. And according to their best effort service, 2mbps is good enough on a 4mbps line. Then he went on to blame uncapped, poor telkom planning, etc. etc. for poor performance, which doesn't help me much.

So much conflicting information. All I know is that there were 3 Telkom vans parked at the exchange on Sunday, so hopefully they got it right this time... I ran a few tests now and my speeds are up to 3.4mbps again, so hopefully things are actually resolved...

It's getting better but not quite there just yet.

indeed

over peak time i saw latency of maximum 250ms'ish

not consistant might i add, but ive seen this before.

it doesnt feel smooth either even when pings look good, it feels like DNS(to me) taking long to resolve sometimes. not sure, but as you say, juuuust not quite there.

anyone know if MWEB DNS servers are overloaded? ive come across DNS allocation for dynamic subs get overloaded by mistake.

Called around today 27/6 - complete outage - no voice line, no ADSL.... At around 14:00 the landline was back but still no ADSL, contacted ISP - they inform me Telkom are working on it. Using 3G is okay but oh so slooooow to load websites.
