Called around today 27/6 - complete outage - no voice line, no ADSL.... At around 14:00 the landline was back but still no ADSL, contacted ISP - they inform me Telkom are working on it. Using 3G is okay but oh so slooooow to load websites.

Got back home now to the Dark Ages... Apparently it has been like that since this morning. 3G useless and ADSL non-existent. NEED MOAR INTERWEBS!!!

Well I will say this, I have escalated Bellville North 5 IMAX dslam, straight to the department that deals with congested exchanges. This specific DSLAM, is already on Metro Ethernet backhaul, and just needs a policy config change on the ESR, and guess what...almost 2 weeks now, to make a config change only.

So I really feel bad for the ones that need more than that, like eg. backhaul upgrade.

Some more technicians at the Graanendal Telkom box today. Once power was restored the onsite tech said all should be fine, not! Oddly enough my neighbour is online but his number starts with 021975 where mine is 021979 (but we neighbours and share the same exchange??) The wait continues...

My word... Normally I want to scream, but now I can only laugh. :p

I've just spoken to Telkom again after I noticed my original fault was just closed.
I was actually told by this person that getting 0.2Mbps is acceptable on a 2Mbps line since they do not guarantee the max line speed. This was supposedly explained to me when I requested the line.

She first wanted to downgrade my line to a slower speed to fix the slow speeds. And then she said she will "try and explain it at my level". :wtf:

Been without any ADSL service for almost 8 days now. Telkom are calling it "network problems" and they have no idea when my service will be restored. Ridiculous!

What's happening with the rest of my real world neighbours on here?

my adsl is 'working' at 800ms - 1600ms latency. so frustrating. cant stream, cant game, cant browse without wanting to stab your eyes out. washing your eyes out with vinegar might be more fun than trying to use this DSL service.

Got a DM now from Telkom's twitter account. Apparently they are "waiting on delivery of cards"... Promised me more feedback tomorrow.

I am so happy I am more than a month totally Telkom independent. I'm not saying WISPS are for everyone, but for me it's been great.

I pulled roughly 62gb last month, which is inside my normal usage pattern. ( Some months I will burst to 100gb )

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/2816043024

It requires a bit of "work" to switch over from ADSL:

1. You have equipment installed at your premises ( A cost you must carry )
2. I had to buy another wireless router ( My ADSL router didn't support a WAN input )
3. Telkom requires a month's notice to cancel the analogue line

There are options available, if you are willing to change.

interesting thanks.

waiting on delivery of cards, amazing. lol the more i think about it the more i laugh. do they honestly just 'put it' as they realise they need it. ja we must put it.

'this' many subscribers requires 'this' many cards. absolutely amazing. the one hand has no clue what the other is doing

Cool. I think we got the idea. Maybe start a separate thread for your WISPS?

Thanks

strange result on his speedtest, his upload is 1mbps higher than his download. i dont see any symmetrical service offered by them either. something dodgy about that test result. damned lies if you ask me.
