E220 Vista Updates

Greetings all. I'm new here ;)

Er, I need help :( well, I downloaded the latest Huawei E220 dashboard (i was an idiot at that time ) from Huawei website and installed it (thought it might look cooler than yellow-stained MTN dashboard) on the pc without any issues, what I didn't realized is that MTN dashboard would be gone (disappeared off the E220 modem).

After looking at Huawei dashboard.... eeew.... i dislike green stained interface:(

Any way to get MTN dashboard back on E220? Any help is greatly appreciated here. Thanks

^^^

I have tried that :( All it did is updated my E220 firmware to the latest version. I want my old dashboard back T_T Anyone here know where to get the latest MTN dashboard? ANy help is greatly APPRECIATED.

I can definitely recommend the pretty blue Huawei software (links in previous posts) to the emetic MTN yellow! Much cleaner interface, and has the advantage of being usable anywhere in the world, theoretically. Link it with an installation of a really reliable data counter like NetMeter and you have the perfect combination. Definitely gets my vote -- which no-one else will next month.....

Please tell me how to install the E220 on Vista-32bit, I'm dying here trying to figure it out.

Trying to install the Firmware, it just can't find the dam thing!?

Here’s what you need to do:
Find a Windows 2000 / XP machine. If you’ve plugged the USB modem into it before, go into control panel, then add remove & programs then de-install the Vodafone runtime components.
Plug the USB Modem back into this machine. The EULA should pop up, click on cancel - this will stop the software loading.
Now, you need to update the firmware - this will allow the device to be recognised by Windows Vista without it throwing a fit. Install new firmware - follow firmware update instructions found here: http://www.business.vodafone.com/si.../general/microsoft/vista/30_modem/p_modem.jsp.
Almost there. Now it’s time to update the software / dashboard on the device to the latest version. Download a dashboard of your choice (Vodacom, MTN, Vodafine, generic, MDMA etc) and run it.

I'm pretty sure all the above is correct. I have not done this myself, I've just bought an E220 and am waiting for it to arrive in the mail and I've researched so I can do this upgrade when it arrives.
If the instructions are incorrect, I am sure someone will correct me.

Let me know how you get on and which downloads you use.

Just sat thru battle to get the trusty E220 to work with Vista.
It installed the software and MTN dashboard with no problem but just would not work giving invalid data card error.

D/Loaded from MTN the latest firmware version
E220Update_11[1].117.10.00.00.B268

D/L page
http://www.mtn.co.za/Support/DeviceDownloads/Pages/default.aspx

Went onto the old HP running XP SP2. Installed the firmaware onto the E220.

Tested it with XP; werk lekker.

Go back onto the Vista machine; invalid data card. Restart Vista machine with data card in USB port. Starts up and connects to 7.2 lekker. As long as you dont connect after start up seems to graft.

I have a problem, a HUGE problem!

I am trying to get my mom's E220 modem working on my Windows 7 x64 so that she can use my laptop when she works at night.

To get it to work, I update the firmware with the firmware from MTN's website and it still didn't work. Then I updated the firmware with the update on Huawei's website in the hope that it might work, but unfortunately I screwed up everything!

Now I cannot use the MTN dashboard, I have to use the Huawei dashboard and it still doesn't work on my 64-bit Windows 7.

I really need to get the MTN dashboard back on the device and the device working with it.

Any help would do!!

Thanks!

The downloads from Huawei's website are not firmware updates, they only change the dashboard installer stored on the modem.

The files with HOST in the name install Huawei Mobile Connect, the files with UTPS in the name install Huawei Mobile Partner. Huawei Mobile Partner seems to be the newer and more user friendly of the two.

MTN's download page has been a disaster for almost a year now and they don't seem to care.

URL for Huawei Mobile Partner is no longer valid. Can you provide an updated url?

I can't bring your yello dashboard back, but try Huawei Mobile Partner (grab the UTPS download) or maybe I can interest you in something homegrown?

Hi There,

The URL for "Huawei Mobile Partner" is no longer valid. Where can I download the latest version of "Huawei Mobile Partner"?

I look forward to your response.

Thanks.
