Good day Cell C Representative (My Hero)

My sim was damaged and really need my number as everything is linked to it eg. Banking, student portal etc.

Please assist my number is 0624163864 (the number i need that was damaged) and the rica serial no. 021413869510 (the new sim that is not rica'd as yet).

Please assist as this is my primary number and it's on my cv's as well.

The call centre asked me some questions that i really can not remember and its really frustrating.

Thanks a million
Good day Bri3mo786

Thank you for reaching out to Cell C, regarding your SIM swap.

Please note that the SIM swap verification process is mandatory, it is the method used ton verify that you are the owner of the number in question. This is because of the high fraudulent activities done through a SIM swap. Strict SIM swap processes are enforced by ICASA in protection of the customer and us (Cell C).

If the SIM card is registered with your details, you can visit a Cell C store near you with your ID book/card and proof of residence for assistance.

Thanks a lot Cell C Rep

So I guess I'll just have to take the time off and go into a store. Hopefully I'll get the worldclass service you promise as a brand.

Thanks.

Good day Prenisha Reddy

Thank you for contacting Cell C.

There is a lot of fraud when it comes to SIM swaps and that is why we take the necessary steps to protect you as the customer as well as Cell C.

A SIM swap cannot be processed without you passing the security check questions.

What happens if I've lost my sim last year November 2019 and I'd like to get my number back again? I went to Cell C and they told me the number in question is 2 months old but there is NO activity on it, no dialled numbers, etc. NOTHING. If the number is not being used then can't I retrieve it again as my Facebook, WhatsApp,etc is linked to it? I'm still using WhatsApp on that number even today!

A prepaid SIM that is activated on Cell C will remain active on the network if there is revenue-generating activity on the line, like making calls and loading airtime.

If the SIM is dormant for 120 days, the SIM is deactivated and the number recycled.

We are required by Icasa to use the number ranges as efficiently as possible and the deleted numbers are re-used as a matter of necessity and obligation to the requirements of the authority.

It seems like your number was allocated to a new subscriber 2 months ago and you will unfortunately not be able to get it back.

Looks like i am gonna have to go through the process of a sim swap, however i am a bit nervous.
This sim was used only for data, and last time i was asked about "last number dials " and such and eventually had to give up.
if i go to the shop with my ID, will that be enough?
this sim was charged last last year with 50GB and i charged it again with 50GB this month....and that's basically all the info i have about this sim .

Also can Cell_C maybe help me check what happened?

Hi Fazlin4286

PM us the RICA serial number of your unregistered SIM card, the number you want to swap and an alternative contact number to reach you on, we'll assist you with a SIM swap.

NB: It's mandatory that you pass the security check to have the SIM swap processed.

I had to do a Cell C SIM swap a month ago for a faulty SIM.
There are only 2 ways I was told about, but maybe via USSD codes is also an option.

The 1st I'm aware of is to (in your case) somehow get to get to a Cell C shop further away from you, but not all of them provide that service (so you'd have to find that out from the call centre first) - that is what I was told at the time, concerning PE.

The more problematic way is to get a SIM from a retailer that won't require you to RICA it, and then you can either get the call centre to do it over the phone or again, take it to the nearest available Cell C shop.
Problem is, P 'n P, Checkers etc. all require SIMs to be RICA'd before you leave their shops, so you'd have to find one of those cellular repair shops that has Cell C SIMs where they don't RICA them.

Others here might have different or additonal info. to contribute to this.
