Hi guys, I guess I'm just here trying to get some piece of mind / asking regarding past experience.

So I bought a car 2 week ago in PTA and drove it down to PE. I've done about 2000km on it since purchase and last night the engine started knocking. Had it towed this morning and am now awaiting diagnoses and quote from Subaru.

After speaking to some people with more knowledge than me the general consensus is that it is most likely rod knock which will require the engine to be rebuilt, which will obviously be very expensive (R40k - R60k)

Now I just want to know have safe my wallet is in this whole situation? CPA states the dealer must cover repair or give me a refund. Either of which I'm happy with. I'm just worried they are going to put up a fight and make this a ball ache for me.

PS. I bought it cash so bank is not involved, also I did not sign anything stating "as is".

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Friend of mine bought a (2nd hand) Golf 7 1.4 like 2 or 3 months back (independent dealership). After about 2k km, he sent the car back to the dealership, it was consuming oil at a stupid rate. R40k + later they paid for the complete bill, engine rebuild + a major service. He didn't pay anything for the repairs.

In your case, I'm not sure how you would go about with the car being bought in Pta and you in PE, but you definitely have recourse.

If bought from a dealer, they need to either repair/replace or refund, if private seller, unlucky

Dealer must pay, but they will put up a fight. The always do.

My previous car was higher mileage and went back for several issues that I, in hindsight, should have picked up before buying it. Dealer didn't even put up a fight, just fixed it all.

Notify the dealer where you brought it at immediately and ask them where should you take it?
If you take it to someone without their approval, they are going to put up a fight

Please tell me this isn't WeBuyShit.

If so read everything carefully to make sure you didn't buy this under their "auction" clause.

Notified them and got their approval to take it to Subaru here in PE.

Definitely did not buy from we buy cars.

They already agreed to cover steering rack recon that was meant to be done this weekend but now obviously engine issue is more important so will get done first.

Was it smoky / use excessive oil at all? If it had worn rings, it is possible for it to have built up crankcase pressure on the long PE trip, throwing all the oil out, and then melting the big-end bearings, causing the knock. Make sure that you tell them that you checked the oil every single day before you drove it, otherwise they might say that you didn't maintain oil levels.

is WBC that bad? I mean if there were that bad, surely people would have screamed bloody murder and driven cars painted dont buy from WBC in your life.
to me they just look a a supermarket, buy cars add on a small margin and off it goes.

No smoke at all, but it was using a lot of oil. Topped up as soon as I noticed the knock though. Haven't driven it since. Towed it to Subaru.

They sell cars as-is. Give you report and if it goes balls up, you have the right to nothing, as it was sold as an "auction" vehicle.
