Could someone tell me how this is happening? My noise margins are horrible yet I sustain 3.7 mb speeds... What can I do to fix this problem? My exchange is about 2.9km away from me.

I lose sync once every couple of days, but I don't mind.

Thanks

try a new router , something like tp-link or a d-link , to get that snr values up, or log a fault with telkom.

best is to lend a router from your friend to test if it goes higher.

what router to you have atm?

A new modem may appear to make things worse. Not because it affects the SNR, but because its firmware may be less forgiving and trigger more disconnects and resynch attempts. Still, not really like you have anything to lose, so you may as well go for it.

What you can also try is to unplug any other devices from the line (phone / fax etc.) and see if that helps a bit.

Aside from that, SNR isn't really a modem thing (as I understand) so it's best to log a fault with Telkom as well. At that synch speed, and at 2.9Km, you should actually be sitting cosy around 11 / 12, I would wager.

I would also suggest that you plug in the ADSL modem directly on the Telkom line, without any other devices being connected to it. This way you'll rule out a faulty ADSL splitter filter.

With a Line Attenuation of below 40dB, you should be able to sync at 4096kbps down, while still having a SNR margin of at least 12dB, unless you have a poor ADSL modem.
