i found out it was a misprint :(

Got a mail last night about their current special and one of them was a seagate 2TB hdd for R249!

i thought it was legit as esquire do have crazy specials sometimes but alas when i called the sales department it was confirmed as a misprint :cry:

i would have loved to get my hands on a few of those for that price :p

good thing i didnt take off work and decided to call first :D

desperately need to upgrade my system so looking for nice specials at the moment.
 
Hi Guys,

As far as I know, legally (misprint or not - I also got the mail), they have to sell it to you at the advertised price.

Just make a loud enough noise and you will have to be granted the special. :)
 
they don't have to sell, they can say there is no more stock.
 
I think you only have a leg to stand on if you have paid and ordered at that price.
 
They will just say "no stock" if you try to force it on them... There will be some sort of out for them in their terms & conditions. I also placed an order for 6 of those drives, but I saw it was a misprint. I have placed orders previously on special prices, only to get notified they cannot honour the price.
 
Well, what I can guarantee, once the Consumer Protection Act comes into effect, they won't merely be able to say "out of stock", as you as a consumer would be able to challenge them on that statement.
Unfortunately, at current moment, I am not sure if there is a challenging body for those types of things, but I am pretty sure, enough noise will get you closer to that item. Hello Peter and MyBB, posted complaints, sending them to the accused party, always assists.
 
That nice little E&OE at the bottom of the page takes care of misprints.
 
Hellopeter will do nothing to Esquire, they are a supplier, not a retailer... There are few enough suppliers that they can pretty much do what they want. Esquire is one of the best suppliers out there, especially since they give accounts to MyBB members...
 
Anyone half awake would see its a mistake, just in case though i asked Shane if i could buy 90,000 of them :D

That new little act will override E&OE's luckily, seriously can not wait for it to come into effect, so many juicy things in that act it gives me butterflies lol

People seem to see the Consumer Protection Act as a fix-all for everything. That is not the case.

In this situation, section 23(9) would probably apply:
If a price as displayed contains an inadvertent and obvious error, the supplier is not bound by it after—
(a) correcting the error in the displayed price; and
(b) taking reasonable steps in the circumstances to inform consumers to whom the erroneous price may have been displayed of the error and the correct price.

Then the act will disappoint you:

Mistakes happen. Rubbing your hands gleefully, almost shrieking at the opportunity to capitalise on someone else's error, is rather sad in my view.

nah i dont want to force them to sell it to me at that price, we all make mistakes from time to time.

i was just disappointed because i could have really used a few of those drives (at that price ofcourse)

hopefully the price will drop soon with the 3TB becoming more popular

although i wouldnt mind if esquire honour there price for just for me :D
 
I guess I am living on the edge then....

Two of my seagate 1TB hdd's have been completely destroyed by freak accidents... And I'm starting to wonder now if samsung is truly more reliable when it comes to data?
