eth device here soon?

My Wish List

My requirements are better upload speeds, well at least 128kbit+. When the wife starts talking on the phone for an hour, doesn't leave me stranded without internet. USB is fine, I like to do my internet sharing/fire walling/Access Point with my own setup. They need to start giving out hardware information or at show willingness to participate in Linux drivers for the device(s).

If they start offering an ethernet device it won't need linux drivers...it will just work. Problem solved.

Well, I will sell my left nut for a 4 port eth device with WiFi g/n ... getting away from Telscum has been a pleasure and I don't care if I'm an early adopter with an OX Wagon.

NOTE: For Sale, one left Nut

When will the ethernet service become available? I already have a router/modem, don't want to buy a new one....

You have a CDMA router/modem?...Your ADSL modem won't work as you won't be connecting through a traditional phone line.

Why can't we just use our own devices? Why do we HAVE TO get one through NeoTel? I would prefer just ordering one from amazon or somewhere instead of getting these "we are working on it" and "we don't have a launch date yet". I suppose it's good business practice to do this, but i wont switch until I can have a eth device!

I agree with you.

I know that you can't get your own because that is one of the ways they want to make money off you. Although they could also make some money off of me by just selling me a CDMA SIM card (like a lot of these devices function with). Then we would all be happy as we could invest in my own modem/router, I realise they wouldn't make as much money as they can selling their own modem/router/ugly-phone-brick-thing, but I really wish they would change.

Neotel is running a similar setup to Telkom's ADSL. You must get their modem/router or you can't use their sevice, so they hook you into a 2 year contract to pay for the modem/router.

Also thanks for the link Loki2008, there are plenty of CDMA modem/routers out there, but from what I have read you just can't use them with Neotel's network as Neotel programs each device with inbuilt information regarding their network (this information is normally contained within a SIM card which would then allow you to change router/modem at will by merely moving the SIM card to the new device). It would be like trying to connect to a cell phone network with a cell phone that has no SIM card. Or imagine a cell phone with a built in SIM card that you can't remove.

+1 Ethernet is critical, I still can't believe they launched without an Ethernet solution.

Guess what? I got a chance to mess around with the 4port ethernet Wifi router today at a corporate event and I must say I am impressed!!!

Downloading YouTube vids are like blinking an eye! They say it is due out soon - very soon :D

They are just wrapping up some technical items on it before it is released.

The problem rite there is that they limit you through the device, so why not just buy the RUIM (SIM) on the lite package and stick it into a EV-DO device and get the Prime speed. See the problem?

now if you look at Vodacom they charge you R50 just because your HSDPA modem can do 7.2Mbps... I don't like that either, anyway hope you follow.

That's the best news I've hear all week. I can't wait to get their uncapped service :)

Excellent! I reckon after they launch the device they will get a lot of people signing up.

How do you use your phone when you have this device?

With any luck this will force them to give us a "voice-less" uncapped package for R600pm? :D
