Eve Online

Definitely worth it...been playing it since Nov 2008 and still can't get enough of it :) As stated above, the learning curve is steep but if you like it you'll play it for years!

There are plenty of carebear's out there, the only difference is the strength of the warbeer ! :D

Yes, but want a corp with some industry orientation where some safas are playing in :P. Wouldnt mind some PVP experience as well...just dont have the skills nor the experience for it. :P

Have you tried Eve University ?

Lot's of experiance and the corp mates are really willing to lend a hand or some ISk for that matter, not much PvP unless wardecked, they do have FFA tournaments to get the PvP experiance up for wars, their knowlage base is also extencive (on their forum, Ivy League). As for safa's there are some there, it's a good place to start.

Beware of those granting you permission to salvage their wrecks and as soon as you're flagged for "stealing" kills you. Better ask them to surrender their wrecks 1st "Blue Wrecks" :)

Far as I'm aware of mechanics, salvage is not considered theft. If you take from the cans then yes.

The only issue I have with Eve is that there is no way to catch up to your friends.

My friends are all low-sec pirates and after doing some calculation, it would take me about 1.5 years just to be able to join their corp, which would then mean that I'm yet another 1.5 years behind them.

Oh well.

There is no catchup in Eve but there is force balancing technically. While your friend may be flying around in a dread thats taken him a year to skill for , there's nothing stopping you from dropping a bubble from a dictor or focus lock from a hictor. In Eve , even though you may have more experiance and access to more ships, if you get a bigger ship , you will need buddies or some noob fleet will pwn your ass.

If your mates are in a low-sec pirate corp then ask your mate if they'll accept you in a interceptor. This is a ideal little ship for tracking and locking prey and plays a huge role in low-sec combat for pirates. And its doesn't take long to skill into the base model and kit.

Eve is not about age or even skill. It is about the interaction of the players and playing with friends. Lan\wan\multi has nothing on a EVE 1000 man battle between two forces.

I agree with Kosmik, your age got nothing to do with it. I can fly for instance all Minmatar ships below carrier as I've been playing for a year and a half but as a new pilot you can focus your training to get skilled in specific ships like interceptors, dictors even bombers etc which is curtail for all fleets and these don't take long to train.

As a 1.5 year old char I fly alongside a lot of 3-5 year old chars and there's nothing that they can do more than me in most of the sub carrier ships. As my gaming time in EVE is spent pvp'ing (and I only have one char) my isk making capabilities is a bit of a problem so there's no need for me at this stage to train for carriers and above as these ships are expensive, so I focus on all types of support i.e. tackle, scout, logistics, sniping, remote repping etc which is a lot more fun for me :)

i started playing in 2005, char now has almost 70m SP (main one), although i havent played in about a year.

the game used to be all about small corps, and semi big alliances, eve was still huge, and there was a lot of interaction and changing of who owned the space.

a year ago when i stopped, i was in Pandemic Legion (PL), jumping all over the bloody universe with dreads and carriers, and it became a pain in the ass.

Roosta - you will never catch up, and you will be stuck in an inty tackling for ages, it will get boring, and you will leave. That's just the way Eve works...the older chars and the team with the most ships normally wins.

So at least you found the game enjoyable for 4 years. Hell I don't know if I'm going to play for that long but who knows I just might :)

Almost everything in this statement can be proven wrong :) but hey you are entitled to your opinion.

Does anyone know where I can find a guide on trading?

IRL I am a qualified Purchasing and Supply Chain manager, so the concepts of trading and logistics are well known to me. What I'm looking for is a guide that shows how things work in the game.

i.e. How do I look for prices on other stations without actually having to fly there? How do you sell to the station vs how do you sell to someone's buy order? Can you sell a partial amount to a buy order or do you have to sell the full amount (if the buy order is 1000 units, can I sell 500 units or do I have to sell 100 units to get the buy order price....or do you actually have to engage the buy order in order to sell to it?)

I have the resources to get myself a Iteron V and deck it out...I just need to figure out how trading in the game works.

Sorry for what is probably a stupid question,...but i've never actually purchased a game through steam before. How do I go about getting the 14 day free Eve trial through Steam? (I've already got a Steam account)

Then once those 14 days are up do I have to go to Steam again, purchase the full game, and then download the whole thing? Or will I already have downloaded everything during the trial and will only need to activate it once I've purchased the full thing? Surely I wont have to download everything twice?

How big is the download?

Also, once i've got the full purchased Eve through Steam, is it possible to write it to a dvd to backup? In otherwords if my computer crashes will I lose everything from Steam and have to redownload it?

Thanks a lot. Looking forward to trying it out.

Herman - sure, but i have been around long enough to see how the cycle of eve goes.

1. YAY I CAN PLAY EVE
2. Wow, is that the ship i get?
3. YAY I UNDOCKED LETS FLY SOMEWHERE
4. Who just killed me?
5. Lets read some guides.
6. Join a ****ty corp just so someone will help you.
7. Get wardecced and die repeatedly.
8. Eve sucks, i can't do ****.

For the people that make it past the worlds most intense learning and training curve, it is undboutedly a great sense of achievement when you buy your first battleship, then hac, then navy, then capital etc etc...but the excitement very quickly wears off when you lose 3bill isk because some muppet didnt check local when he opens the cyno...lol...

Eve is a great game, but there really is no balance, a gang of 10 noobs can be killed by 1 person in a thorax..its just the way it is, 70m SP vs 10 x 1m SP always wins....sure there are exceptions, but would you want to be the guy in an inty for 6 months because noone trusts you in a bigger ship, and once you get that ship you are so afraid of losing it cos it took you a month to farm and fit?

I wont deny it, it really is a fun game, 95% waiting for something to happen, 1% something happens and its over, 4% raging at the noob in the inty who didnt tackle.
