External Hard Drive beeps when used on TV

I have been told by the pc shop that the 500GB external hard drive is not getting enough power from the TV its plugged into. Yet it does work sometimes??

Great - so how do I remedy this as simply as possible?
 
Get and powered USB HUB to be used as an usb extender.
 
If your TV has 2 USB ports, then you won't need a hub. You just need a special USB cable with 2 USB connectors on the one end, and one connecter on the other. Then you plug the end of the cable with 2 connectors into the 2 USB ports on your TV, and then you are basically supplying the drive with double the power. A much cleaner and cheaper solution.
 
Easy enough to diagnose,listen to the drive when plugged in,you can usually hear the drive spin up and spin down,up and down if it's not getting juice. Powered Hub or a double USB that can inject some power to sort it
 
You know you get those blackberry chargers that have the power to usb type thing, would it be safe to use that with the power assist cable and to the TV?

Yes it should be fine, as long as it has an output rating of 5V, which it should be for it to qualify as a USB charger, and contain a USB port.

Cool, what about the milliamps? Is 750mA too much?

And lets say the output is 5V of the blackberry charger and the TV USB is also 5V wont that add up to 10V and blow the Hard Drive?

U can never have to much milliamps just to much voltage
 
nb sometimes the hdds have two usb plugs on the one side...and on rare occasions the thicker of the two cable works & the other does not.

the powered usb hub is a sure fix though.

u can have 50000 charger connected and it will be fine, but u can have 2 and it will blow its just matter of if they give power in series or parallel.
