I have a 10gb contract and for the last 2 months been getting terrible speeds and latency issues when gaming or just using the web.. this normally happens between 7pm and 12am.

My 3g dongle has 99% signal strength (rssi -80) which is very good.

Friends from other towns are also experiencing this issue at the same time, now my guess is that we are being throttled... I live in Paarl btw... Western Cape

I have made complaints on hello peter , received a ref number (676550) which according to 8ta customer care agent whom I have just spoken to, is not even on your system ........ WTF 8ta

I was also promised a call from a technician and that has not materialized at all.

Pretty awesome Harry Houdini act they pulling after they got me too sign the contract.

Must I suck some *&#^%@ to get help from 8ta.....

PLZ 8ta REP GIVE ME SOME FEED BACK....

To date I have :

Phoned 8ta 8x times
Made 4 Hello Peter complaints
Sent 3 emails from the 8ta site.. the "Contact Us" feature. PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTTTTTTT

and no assistance from them at all.

Lube anyone??????????

Ive been getting exact same problems from last night , 28th of Feb. Ive been more than satisfied with my 8ta until now. Don't know what they doing at the moment. My 1 clan member who has ADSL and ISP is Telkom is also experiencing much higher latency and ping in game. I hope this isn't the beginning of telkom and mweb that are not going to peer together anymore. Because all game hosting in SA is done by mweb. Had the same problem last year September.

Was horrible last night but fine now for gaming so ny guess is people eating away at their remaining data before the end of the month.

We have had the 10gig package for about 4 months and it's been the same story for every night on the last day of the month, it becomes completely unusable with simple Google searches timing out

Sure , I understand that using the last bit of cap for the month will prob give a lot of congestion but this has been happening every night between 7- 12am....

What really gets me is that 8ta has not phoned me or even sent me an email explaining the situation ,

I mean how can it be so difficult .... just send out a mail saying , sorry dear client. We ****ed up and are busy signing up to many ppl on our 10gb promo and our 3g towers cant handle the traffic.

We are not looking into upgrading the towers as we are too stupid in planning ahead and frankly we just want your money.

They are useless.... just checked my hello peter response from them and again (4th time) I get an automated response with the promise of a call from their technical department and that the situation has been escalated.

LIKE I BELIEVE ANYTHING THEY SAY....

the proof is in the pudding and I f*&%^*&N hate 8ta pudding....

I just checked my latency now and its the 1st day of a new month and its just getting worse. Hope we getting an answer soon. Like i said i have been more than satisfied getting a ping of 50 to 70 and now its more than doubled.. and the funny thing is I play in telkom's online gaming league , and now with this , I cant participate any further untill they sort it out

I also got a response on hello peter now with this reference number : 755656.. hoping they check this thread soon and let us know something !!!

Still good:

I think some will be affected, while others not. Mine is usually good, 40-60ms, but i do get spikes here and there.

Yea seeing the same thing..Its K/\K, then brilliant..Then k/\K again...Up and Down like a toilet seat.

Since this morning in Edenvale, the 8.ta connection speed has been glacial - web pages take AGES to load - and the Speedtest.net webpage TIMED OUT before loading properly.

Current page loading speeds are even slower than I had with a 56Kb/s analog dial up modem on a Telkom line!

Just tried the Speedtest.net page again - it FAILS TO LOAD!

Ok, so it's not just me then. I had spent the last hour fiddling with my modem's position trying to find a new sweet spot. Getting exactly the same results. Sometimes I get 30ms local pings, other times its 250. Intermittant packet loss as well.

Edit :

Check this out.

Note how the low pings and the high pings are separated by one ping which is unusually higher than the others. Goes without saying that my connection was completely open with nothing downloading in the background while I was doing this test.

I am using the 10GB + 10GB 8.ta data bundle, and have noticed that the MTN 3.6 Mbps modem goes from a turquoise light - active connection - to a dark blue light - no data transfer but still connected - quite often in the last few days - or just drops the connection a number of times and then I struggle to reconnect.

I usually unplug and re-plug the USB modem and then re-connect and that sometimes solves the problem.

I loved my 8ta but since yesterday i get sick latency havent a clue why !!!

Mine is also rubbish, but this is nothing new... ONLY the first week was the ping 40ms, since then it's been terrible.

speedtest:
http://www.speedtest.net/result/1807103457.png (498ms, 0.64Mb/s, 0.98Mb/s)

Having the same issues. Hardly able to browse my porn properly. Connection is stable, but speeds have gone down terribly. Speedtest usually gave me about 3.5MB/s, now it's 0.07.

Yup can hardly play bf3 now but this morning was fine...
