F1 - General discussion and 2017

The highlights package will be the start plus 2 laps and then the last 3 laps :)
 
Last week Vettel accelerated into Hamilton and screamed "Break Test" into the radio.
This week he has a bad start and screams "Jumped Start" into the radio.

He is the master of misdirection and knows that because he is a Ferrari driver it will trigger an automatic investigation.

Cool story. Even Ricciardo called in a jump start though.

That's a tad dramatic...

Certainly more dramatic than the race, but not terrible and a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
 
It was a damn good start though. 0.2sec reaction time, the best ever measured was 0.18sec at the beijing Olympics apparently - I have no facts to back that up though, I am just repeating what the SKY commentators said.

To be fair to Seb, it was very close. If you watch the replay, the lights were still on and fading when he moved, but it was very close
 
One thing that was interesting was a vast Sea of orange Shirts with only the occasional red.
At one point the camera panned over an almost empty embankment with one person sitting next to a large Ferrari sign and onto a grandstand full of Verstappen supporters.
I imagine that SPA will be even more Orange.
 
Vettel should concentrate on the lights.

The Ferrari driver said that he was certain Bottas had jumped the start lights, but also accepted that the stewards are the ones who judge the legality.

On-screen graphics in the television coverage put Bottas's reaction time at 0.201s.

"From my point of view, he jumped the start - I was sure that he did," said Vettel.

"It looked like it from inside the car, but it's not for me to judge at the end of the day.

"[My start] was quite tricky for me to keep standing still. it was OK, a bit of wheelspin early on."

When asked to clarify why he believed it was a jump start, Vettel described Bottas's getaway as "unhuman".

"When I say I don't believe, I don't believe," said Vettel.

"Normally, the reactions are 0.2s for everyone, so I don't believe everyone was slower today.

"So that is why I don't believe Valtteri was so much quicker.

"I was a strong believer that he jumped the start, but it turns out he didn't - that is why I don't believe it.

"His start was unhuman."

Bottas definitely moved fractionally before the lights went out, but it was too small for the sensors to pick up no doubt. The rule states
Jump start

When a driver moves off his grid position before the five red lights have been switched off to signal the start. Sensors detect premature movement and a jump start earns a driver a penalty.

The telemetry systems on these cars are measuring peco seconds and miniscule movement.
If they can measure that he reacted in 201 ms we can assume a resolution of 1ms.
If the instruments are that accurate then surely they could judge a jumped start.
Or are we saying that Vettels gut feel is more accurate than the instrumentation?

Vettel is just upset that Bottas didn't have to apologise.
 
Pic 3 of Sabre Wolf's post shows the lights out and the car hasn't moved, that alone should be enough (for everyone but the whining child that Vettel has become).
