Fairphone 3 extends guaranteed Android software support to 7 years

This phone and a framework laptop.

Would solve so many of our procurement and management headaches as an MSP.

I want this phone!!! wish they would sell it locally in SA.
literally cant think of a more perfect Android Phone, wish all phones were built this way.

Why do you want such an ancient phone? The phone is already 4 years old, and runs on the already low-end 5 year old Snapdragon 632.

Also increasing their software support to 7 years, doesn't mean you get a new Android version each year, and they're slow with their updates;

While seven years of updates is incredible, the one thing you could ding Fairphone for is that the updates don't arrive at a regular cadence. The company actually skipped Android 12 to deliver Android 13. Monthly security updates probably don't arrive that regularly either.

I would guess they want the latest 1 to receive as long a support as poss

The article writer didn't use the device or got first hand experience from someone that does as usual.
Edit: I take issue with the sentence in the article:
Monthly security updates probably don't arrive all that regularly either.
Up until now they did: I used to get Android 11 security updates every 2nd month with a patch level of 1-2 months before. Not sure how that compares to other vendors, but to me it seemed quite regular.

He seems very unsure if it doesn't know for sure ?
