I see that the LTE coverage for my area is very patchy. Currently I am enjoying pretty good 3G speeds where I am, but I would say that is partly because of me investing in a directional antennae as normal reception at my place is poor. You can check my speed test results. Anyway, I see that the LTE coverage stops around 200m from my house. Is this measured at ground level? I have line-of-sight to the Midrand Telkom tower at which my directional antennae is pointed at. What is the possibility of me actually having LTE reception from the roof of my house? Is there a way for me to check? I have a Hauwei E1820 modem that I am currently using. Am I right in assuming that I will not be able to pick up a LTE signal with this modem and that I will need to get a new modem? Also, do I have to have LTE enabled on my data package? What is the cost involved in enabling LTE?

Secondly, I got an 8ta SIM card from a friend. I think it is linked to a 60G+60G package. He recons there should be 5 months and 10Gig left on it. How do I go about linking it to my account to check the balance. I have the phone number, but obviously it is not RICAd to me, so my ID number throws it out. Any idea how to do this painlessly?

Once you have connected to the internet with your 8ta SIM Card - simply go to this web page to check your remaining data bundle statistics:

http://onnet.8ta.com

The account is not in my name. I got the SIM from a friend. When I want to link it to my existing 8ta account, I have to add the ID number (as it was RICAd with) to add the account. I can ask my friend for his details, but would like to not do it. What is the transfer options?

Hi Lord Farquart

8ta did not launch LTE as yet. If you do not have coverage then you will not be able to qualify for the service.

Huawei 1820 is not LTE compatible, so you will need a new LTE device from 8ta.

LTE is not on default active on any existing 8ta SIMs, so you will not be able to test 8ta LTE on any existing Promo.

8ta LTE is not launched yet, so unfortunately we cannot provide any information on the commercials.

The On net feature (as mentioned by Ivan Leon) will allow you to view the data balance.

Thank you

I must say that http://onnet.8ta.com/ works really well, whether you're on a PC or an iPad...

Does not work. I am using it for my current 8ta package. For that I registered using my ID number and the 8ta MSISDN.

Now I have a SIM with data on it. I recon this was registered with the previous owner's ID and the MSISDN of this data package. I can not register it in my name as the previous owner has done so already. I get the following error message "Invalid MSISDN/ID Number combination" If I use the "unlock account" option, will I be able to reset the card?

try this one this will (should not ask for any details and will go straight to your current sim in your modem

& if that doesn't work just USSD *188#
or send blank sms to 188

You'll get 2 sms's back
1 with daytime data remaining
1 with nightowl data remaining
xpiry date will also be listed

Does your 3G Dash not support doing USSD or text/sms?

You can do either of the following.
If it doesn't put the sim in a ph & do it

The SIM is in a 3G modem plugged into my TP-Link router, so I don't use the dasboard. I will, when I get home tonight, take the USB modem with SIM in it and plug it into my computer. Will give feedback later. Thanks anyway for all the advice.

Thanks. As the SIM was at home and I at work, I could not test it. Did it now and it seems I have 38gig daytime and 52gig nighttime available on the SIM. Now to find out whet to do with it???
