Please be careful with installing the beta's out there. There's one for each card type and firmware on the card, so make sure you have the same HSDPA card and on the same firmware version.

I personally decided not to load the beta on my own router. It looks like it'll be resolved very soon.
 
I am using an out of the box Option Nozomi card, with no changes to the shipped firmware. Unfortunately I cant check the firmware version on the card right now, as I had to send the whole set up to Durban this morning.

To be save I backed up my router settings before I installed the new firmware. You can do this from the routers admin panel.

The new router firmware version is v1.99.8 dated April 24, 2006.

In line with this superb question from ic, adding my own! ;)

I signed up for a 3G/HSDPA contract... when Vodacom splits the two, will we be able to select whether we want to have 3G or HSDPA?
 
:confused: What I would like to know is how will Vodacom differentiate between the two. Will you be able to use HSDPA when on a 3G bundle and vice versa, or will you be completely prevented from doing that? And if you have a HSDPA bundle and fall out of HSDPA coverage will Vodacom still effectively deduct HSDPA bandwidth or will they deduct less like they are supposed to? This whole thing is still very confusing and then the extra tech and/or software needed to do all this must effectively negate the extra income from the few people using HSDPA. I still don't even see the need to differentiate between 3G and HSDPA since it was only a software upgrade as all the 3G hardware was HSDPA capable. It would have made much more sense to differentiate between GRPS/EDGE and 3G/HSDPA since the hardware is different. still :confused:

A few questions about the Vodacom HSDPA card

Forgive me if these questions were answered before:


1) Who is the manufacturer of the new Vodacom HSDPA card?

2) Is the card network locked to Vodacom (i.e. will it work with a MTN sim card) ?

3) Can you use the card for voice calls as well via an earpiece and microphone ?

1) Either Option or Novatel depending on stock and what comes in.
2) Not the one's I've tested
3) You can use your notebook for Skype etc but not the card itself no.
 
Hi

I have the HUAWEI data card but I can't find any updates for the dashboard on the vodacom4me site.

Is it safe to assume that v6.03 is the latest for my card?
 
The Huawei works fine on V6.03, but you can download V7 from vodacom4me if you like. It will most likely be listed under the Novatel U740 upgrades...

V3g, please communicate this to the 155 Helpdesk. I persisted for 30min on Wednesday and after they had read all the literature they had available and consulted with their helpdesk they confirmed that HSDPA uplink was 128k.

Can you also confirm that you can still bolt on a bundle on a 4U contract. The vodashop I enquired at phoned his support desk and confirmed that 4U contract bundles are not possible.

Don't know where they got the 128 from???. Was never even a possible option. Will take it up. If you have a name, PM me please.

4U + bundle 100% possible. Quite a few forumites do this.

Btw, just got confirmation all your numbers on all APN's are provisioned for 384K in the up-link.
 
I've just enquired from my local Cellucity store where I bought my 3G card cash a few months ago, about HSDPA stock to swap my card out. They have stock, but the person informed me to bear in mind that the new card will be network locked to vodacom.

Is this true that the new HSDPA cards are indeed network locked? According to the forum history this has not been the case in the past?

This is not a huge problem now, but you never know what happens. At some point I might choose the switch providers, or at least want the freedom to make such a choice in future.
 
When's the HSDPA PCI-x cards going to be released and what will the prices be? I heard it was this month.
Anybody got info about the USB ones too?

AFAIK some are locked but you can take it to Vodacom and they'll unlock it for you.
 
Do they unlock locked cards? I thought they just exchange for an unlocked one, if possible. There are no guarantees.

Anybody got answers on my questions above?
