You do not have to register to READ the "posts" or thats what some think it is. Many so called "posts" is just one liner garbage..

Polly deserved what he got and much more. I am sure there is more idiots that do not think he deserved it.

Give me a factual reason, aside from your own personal one as to why Shaun Pollock wouldn't have received the shared man of the series award? :cool:

But it went alittle far...

Will Boucher and Kallis have something like this? Doubt it.
 
Polly and the rest of the team was at my workplace today signing bats and stuff, its weird that he is going now :(

It was not his mistake. Micky Mouse and Biff dropping him for the test was their mistake. Polly left at the right time because of how shabbily he was treated.
 
The bowling attack will suffer now...
Steyn showed his inexperience yesterday, couldnt keep his cool after the Windies decided to take him on.
Albie is ok, but still a first change bowler.
Ntini will miss Polly....

Ye I think he left at a time when they need him.
 
Uno, any evidence for your belief that Pollock was pushed? I've not seen anyone else mention that, and let's face it, the guy is 34 - his retirement is very well timed.

Yeah, Steyn has really good days and really bad days, and nothing in between. Nel and especially Ntini recently have not been so reliable. The two Morkels are pretty exciting, but they're not quite there yet. The less said about Langeveldt, the better, I think. :)

But its part of growing up, when Donald left we thought it'ld leave a big hole in the side and we seemed to manage alright.
 
I must point out that if Polly had been dropped and the selectors (mickey mouse and biff) had said in the media that he was no longer part of their plans, there would have been holy hell to pay all over the country.
Instead Cricket SA call him in and treat him with the honour he deserves by saying," Sorry mate but you're no longer part of our plans. The Windies tour will be your last as part of the squad. Would you like us to help make it YOUR TOUR and go out on a high?"

Now people still bitch that he was badly treated and pushed! I must ask, opinions aside, how long he should have continued and how should he have left?

I think Polly is probably the only SA sportsman to have been treated with such dignity (at least I can't think of one right away).

Polly, thanks for the memories mate! Sad to see you go but "times, they are a changing". You've earned the time with your family and they with you!

IIR Donald wasnt very good when he left, he lost speed and line and length, he left after he expired IMO.
 
Strange I thought Polly had retired because he wanted to make some pounds this year in that 20 20 league in India and maybe play some county cricket in the UK for the same reason. I really never knew he was pushed out, or is that just the doomsday fellas making up fairy tales again ???

I think the pushing was when he was dropped for two test series in a row. After that, he decided to play one more and show how much they are going to miss him.

Until he had stopped performing. One of the old cricketers wrote an article about how they felt him being left out of the test side was the motivating factor for Polly retiring.

The problem is that he was still performing better then all of the othe bowlers in the side when he was dropped and averaging 40 with the bat. Oh, and just the small matter of being ranked no 3 in the world when he was dropped. IMO it was more Biff trying to dominate the team then Polly not performing. Other then perhaps Aus, Polly would have made it into any side in the world the way he is currently playing. At least now the UK teams are lining up for him and you can be certain they won't shun him the same way Cricket SA has.

I suggest that staying to long would have resulted in him breaking down al la Donald. I think he's gone on his terms (almost). I think that if he stayed as long as you suggest he would have embarrassed himself by being force to go.

I think it is only that tosser Symcox (he used to be a fantastic ex-cricket) who suggested that Polly was pushed and that's where the "story" began. Just the same as when the tosser suggested that there was more to the calculation story in the Sri Lanka World Cup match. He suggested in the press that the "full story" would one day come out and that Polly would be vindicated! These nothing like a rumour to get the sporting public all riled up. I'd still like to se the "pushed" evidence.

I know he was left out of the test team but whose to say there was no preceeding discussion regarding the Windies tour being his swansong.

I think we do Polly a diservice by suggesting that his retirement is anything more or less than him recognising that it probably downhill from this point an deciding to go whilst at the top of the world.

IMO, he would probably have played through to the end of the season and then retired. Leaving him out of the two previous tests was a slap in the face which ever way you look at it. At the time he was our best performing bowler and also averaged 40 with the bat. Was Mcgrath dropped for some games before he retired? How about Warne? They were performing and because of that were left in the side. We have different ideas here.
