Faulty Hard drive on HDPVR

Looks like my HDD on HDPVR finally packed up after 2 years and 3 months....Will MC give me a new decoder or just put in a new drive? How much will it cost? I dont have the patience to call their Helpline...

Lol, my HD PVR's hard-drive packed up almost in the exact same time. I just took it into the MC centre and they gave me a brand new PVR, quite a painless exercise (minus all the stuff lost on the PVR :( ) Have you got hardware protection through Multichoice? What is the warranty on the HD-PVR?
 
Why not replace it yourself if it's out of warranty?
 
If you don't have a decoder care plan, you pay R350. (according to the Multichoice forum).
Mine also complains about a problem with the HDD. Been doing that for 2 months, so I can't record, rewind, etc.
I'll take it in sometime next week and see what they say.
 
If its the original Pace 4 tuner & your serial number is below P300080000 you will get a free swap out. If not then it will cost R342
Either way you will lose the recordings on your HDD

Its not so simple, and not really worth risking it for R342 (HDD will cost about that anyway)
 
Took the two decoders to MC shop today, they tell me that I will have to wait for 7-10 working days before I can get my PVR back from Randburg and no spare decoder available to use in the meantime, so going to miss the cricket for 2 weeks.....:(
Brilliant service for R600 a month.
 
You should've rather gone to an actual Multichoice and not an agency if possible. You would've got a swop out there & then at Randburg, CT & Dbn

Geez that sucks... sorry you couldn't take them through to Multichoice themselves. Assuming you didn't pay anything for the repair, maybe ask if they could speed up the couriering for a fee?

Thats a 3.5Inch SATA drive.....

here is a 2.5inch... notice the positioning of the connectors and how much space they take up on the drive compared to the one in your picture.
