Hey guys I'm close to getting fiber but don't want to get the router provided by the ISP.

I'm more specifically talking about the router which the fiber connects to off the wall directly and then possibly bridges to a Wifi router over WAN connection.

As i understand the fiber router enables a PPAoE connection over the fiber to access internet, but i'm open to correction

If anyone has used their own router rather than the CPE provided, which is it?

Thanks

Depends on the operator and deployment. Which one is providing yours? But long story short you need to use their CPE/ONT as it's also an edge device they use for troubleshooting. Why wouldn't you want to use it?

Provider is Comtel. They charging R2k for install/setup and the ONT is already installed in my apartment as my complex had a Private company come in and install fiber for DSTv over fibre and internet. Its actually Ellies through Comtel that are providing the internet service. I figured I could use the R2k for a better router.

Remember it's not a router it's a CPE or more than likely ONT. R2000.00 for an ONT is usually sold at a loss.
