Anyone has information when we might get fibre in Overport/ Asherville area? I'm on the west side of Brickfield road towards Asherville.

In the last month or so, the ADSL connection has been really pathetic (10 mbps, getting closer to 2 mbps). Telkom says there are a lot of cable faults in the area.

To my knowledge, the east of Brickfield Road all has fibre installed.

Hasn't been updated for my area for over a year, although I have seen fibre installer vans around.

They have been working in Musgrave for a while and I think they have started on Umgeni road

According to a friend who lives in Overport off Sparks Road, it’s not happening anytime soon.

He ended up going for the MTN 1TB Business deal for R999pm and he gets 200 Megs a second speeds off his phone or a HUAWEI B618/ B818 router.

So that’s my advice to you if that cap is sufficient since the speed is awesome. He’s been registering interest and speaking to the Telkom guys for quite some time with no satisfactory response so he bit the bullet on LTE which hopefully in under a year will be upgraded to 5G.

Update:

As of today, many parts of Asherville and Springtown has been trenched. Metrofibre, Hyperhood and Mitsol are the FNO's. Fibre blowing has commenced in certain areas, but the area as a whole is yet to go live.

Even with all the bumps, we didn't see this thread apologies.

Please DM me with your details so I can check coverage and plans for you, Overport has been caught in between the Sydenham rollout and the old existing Vumatel and Openserve rollouts. But, we have noticed Openserve is busy rolling out around there and slowly expanding, so we can check that out for you.

I’m still waiting for my area to go live. My building was done mid June but still not live. I’m on the other side of brick field road. Around west road. Metro is trenching atm as well

Sorry I have no idea what "bump" means? I know I am not responding to the question of the day. I am looking for advice. Is fibre preferable to "air fibre"? Our area is being dug up for fibre but I am being pressurized by a salesman to go for "air fibre". He says it is just as good. I understand very little of the technicalities. But I do believe that there may still be quite a delay before fibre is available. Does anyone have any idea how long it takes for fibre to go live from the time of laying it? Advice would be much appreciated.
