Hey all, I am hoping someone has experienced what I am experiencing.

I bought a house and took occupation. The previous owner gave notice late, so the fibre line in the house is registered to them per Vumatel. I am trying to get my ISP to active the line but Vumatel will not allow it. My ISP asked me for proof of ownership, which I duly sent through. They then sent this on to Vumatel. My understanding now is that Vumatel are discussing this with the previous owners ISP. But there is now no movement. Absolutely stagnant. Is there a solution here that someone has figured out, or is it just about waiting? Another note is that the previous owner was a very difficult man and may be trying to be difficult and not give access. I am not sure. I don't know much at this point, but surely there must be a way of opening the line as I own the house....?
I am with RSAWEB and he was with MWeb.

Probably quicker to get a new line. Get one of those new sign up deals.

I begged the previous owner of my house to let me take the line over. Did all the hoop jumping and the B1tch went and canceled the line anyway. I was without a line for 2 weeks and then got stuck with her ISP because I didn't want to wait even longer.

The transfer of ownership system is beyond retarded.

Thanks for the advice. I have both Vumatel and Openserve running past me, so I guess I could always get an openserve line. Hopefully my ISP can escalate an install

A friend of mine pays about R800 a month for it, nice and fast, we used it last weekend in the Cederberg camping. 200Mbit down constantly

That's even better. It can take them upto a month to release, I remember now when Christal Web went under, Vuma wouldn't release and I had a massive fight to get a new ISP to get me online again.

if Vuma drags their feet then get Openserv to install a new line.

Crazy stuff. I was so frustrated and thats why I reached out here. Now I hear the line is open and activation imminent. Maybe they are reading Mybroadband...... . I will check when I get home and update.
I was actually entering my card details to get Rain so that we had something for a month or two, and I got the email. Crazy stuff! Thanks all!

I know that is a great option, but when fibre is available the cost is just a bit too much. We are not heavy users, but we need it for work. So we are like 50mbps type people. bit of netflix. But thanks. I am sure it is incredible!

Be careful on applying for another line, if they are in the process of activating the current one you could end up being billed for both. And then pay some sort of penalty for early cancellation.

So best to check with your ISP first.

I had the same problem. After excessive swearing at anyone at Afrihost (yeah, I know they're the ISP, but they are the only way I can get to Vuma), someone from another ISP called me and told me the cancellation was done.

It has been a crazy experience. As mentioned they said the activation was imminent. Then I got called to say there was an issue and a technician will come out. Turns out previous owner snapped the fibre line. They had to put a new box and fibre line, but then 2 hours later we are sorted. Finally. There has to be a better process for this whole fibre thing. Anyways, I am not moving any time soon. So I hopeuflly never have to have this ever again. Thanks for all the advice guys!
