100% agree, if you are a small nation with an Icon lets them play as they are probably still your best choise but not Portugal who have an outside chance. Just look at Uruguay who didnt pick Luis Suárez

But when it comes to soccer/football then the ol'family album is whipped out and some heritage tracing is done, Oh look I have some Portuguese or Dutch in me, and then support accordingly.

To be fair to them Bafana doesn't even qualify regularly. So it's hard to support a team not in the competition.

Supported the Dutch in WC 98. Had to pick a team (besides Bafana) and just loved their bright orange kits. Made it all the way to the semis, and thanks to them, chose Arsenal as my EPL team for life for the upcoming season.
