Also, to shift from Messi, watching the Egyptian manager figure out how to make the most of a slower Salah pisses me off all over again at Slot's mismanagement.

It certainly is the Messi show... I do wonder how this will hold up against better teams though.
It was a great game to watch but really did think the rest of the team was passing to him when it wasn't necessary.
There were also the two missed free kicks - which were not great.

That should have been a 3 nil game.

It was fantastic to watch with my son who is 8 and just getting into the sport, I know watching matches like this is what builds a true fan.
 
Senegal looked really shít. Lazy and inaccurate defending. Giving Norway goals for free.

BS. The upper range of how competitive any sport is not determined by just the amount of people or teams. Otherwise China and India will just dominate all sport just based on number of people.

100 extra shít African teams that doesn't even have grass pitches doesn't mean that Soccer now has more competition.

SA Rugby and Cricket is competitive and play against the best in the world. Even though the Cricket can't win a tournament.
Soccer is shít because it is run incompetently by corrupt officials

I agree with you, although the argument in that post is not about making it out of the group stage.

So we could manage things properly but what the chap is saying will still be just as valid as it was before we started managing things properly, the Bafana and Springboks comparison is silly.

Credit to the little man. Though, have to wonder: only scored against two good teams (Netherlands, France), when the rest are either mid at best, or minnows. Looking at the groups Argentina has been in for every World Cup, it's almost as if someone at FIFA is trying to pump up Messi's goals tally.

Had this discussion with someone the other day and if we could get school football on the level of school rugby the entire country would be better off. The goverment needs to be pouring money (just use the billions we keep bailing SAA out with) into school / grass routes football done properly and managed by a NGO or privately.

If you take school boy rugby as an example it is massive clashes every week with big tournaments, great facilities and tv broadcasts. Kids at the school talk and hype the game up the whole week and bascially plan their weekend around it. If South Africa could manage this with football just imagine the opportunity we would give so many youngsters and the quality of players we would produce with some youngsters possibly getting into European acadamies. It seems like such an obvious solution that would have a massive impact on the entire country and just boost moral.

Yip and it takes little effort for the schools to match what they are doing for rugby.

My son is lucky enough to have football as an option at school but there are not many other schools we can organise a game with, then the fixtures are often canceled because the other team has issues. They end up playing 4 matches a term.
The coach is also just whichever teacher is available.

Most of the really keen players have a private coach come in (ex National Squad o_O) which is really great but also only once a week.
Then some of the kids actually play club as well, just to get a game.
Its wild to see how many keen players there are but how little there is in the way of tournaments and leagues.

but if you go to a rugby school then its life, proper coaching, fixtures sometimes twice a week, holiday programs and clinics, Craven week etc... and there is still club teams if you really want to push it.
