Hi

I've taken the plunge and ordered my first Mac - a Macbook Pro 15 inch. I ordered from Amazon and had it delivered to a friend in the US (Amazon don't ship to SA anymore). He will bring it back when he returns in a few weeks.

My question is: How do I insure it while he has it? I've asked Outsurance (who I insure with) and they won't do it until it is in my possession. Santam could do it, but I'd have to move to them (which I'm ok with) but even then, they won't do it for new business - only an existing customer.

Any ideas?

let him insure it and then reimburse him when he gets here.

I wanted to do it myself because then I can fight with the insurance company to get them to pay out (when do you not need to fight?)

It looks like I've found an insurer who will do it by going through a broker. I'm just waiting for a quote, so if that comes through I'll post back here for anyone else who needs to do the same thing.

Why don't you ask your friend to carry the Mac as a carry-on laptop (don't put it in the packages) ?
Yes you will have to open it at US security check point but if it is for personal use, not for re-sale, I don't think it's a big issue.

He is, I just want it insured. Turns out that when I called Outsurance to cancel they found a way to insure it (because I've been with them for so long). It just needed a push.
