Yes but how many times has it been thrown out of the window?

hey, count me in as well. i hope iBurst turns into a revolutionary phenomenon in this country. good luck WBS.

Oh how quickly we forget! I must say I will reserve judgement until we see how this performs. I am astounded at how people are jumping onto this IBurst stuff when we were so recently lauding MyWireless. Don't you think IBurst will also have problems? Don't you think some of their promises will not be met? Don't you think that the speeds of 1Mb/s will likely be quite a bit slower? If you read the early postings on MyWireless (from Rodent in many instances) people were super happy with it and it was only later that performance started to go down. With 130 odd beta testers, we haven't really seen the system under pressure. Ultimately it is more power to us the users as we will hopefully have 2 alternatives to telkom in the near future. I hope it rolls out smoothly but I would be most suprised if it does. I am not a download demon admitedly but I really have had no problems (apart from a few days when it was down for one or other reason) with MyWireless.

There have been lots of comments such as this, and there will be surely hundreds more to follow.

Just because Sentech experienced problems with their rollout, it does not mean WBS will go through the same.

Remember, WBS is monitoring closely all the issues faced by Sentech, and is learning from them. WBS will most likely also experience some teething problems, although probably of a different nature.

I am encouraged at the reports from the Australian implementation. If one follows the forums there, iBurst issues revolve around mainly pricing and comparisons with products such as their DSL offerings. Whereas, issues around IPW implementations in New Zealand, mirror to some extent the problems we face with MyWireless.

iBurst in South Africa has been in test phase since January this year. It will be in test phase until it is rolled out some time in 2005. I have seen the tests being performed, although it is still early, the technology looks promising. The air interface technology appears far superior to competing products.

Also, there is a lot of attention being paid to bandwidth management.

I would give WBS a chance to deliver, before being so sceptical about the product.

Just because Sentech experienced problems with their rollout does not mean that WBS won't.

I would say make sure things are working well before jumping ship.

Rodent, I'll have your modem, conditionally, if your signal lights work, I'll take it!!
***********Edit*************
due to much confusion, I am editing my post, I am not actually wanting to purchase a modem, I already have one, I know theRodents display panel on his modem does not function.
hence my condition to purchasing is rigged.
as is his offer an attempt at humour.

i'll take the modem if you can get it to work in Fish Hoek... i should get 1% signal if it wasn't for the 2x mountains; from a tower in Constantia, i think.

lol is one of them table mountin

There is no peace without war!!!

nope, actaully thinking about it afterwards, it appears as two mountains but it is actually just one really thick one.

gonna set up a wireless ap on myu roof soon, then i'll be able to sit on the beach and connect to home!!

To Dorris and Andres101, I have 3 brand new IPWireless modems in my possession.
They have been tested on the MyWi network and are in perfect working order.
Im asking R2250 each...and they are totally legit.

Email me on skylite[at]webmail.co.za for full details [:)]
