Fixed-LTE showdown - MTN vs Telkom

So if you have the correct router, or are willing to purchase one, the MTN packages are definitely a better bet overall.

Telkom supports a much wider range of LTE routers, so you'll be able to dust of your 5 year old LTE router and still be able to get by.

On another note, MTN fixed LTE still does not have an answer to Telkom's 10GB+10GB for R99.

Fixed-LTE showdown - MTN vs Telkom

Afrihost has launched new fixed-LTE packages that run on MTN's network.

The packages are called Afrihost Pure LTE, and the ISP is offering one month of free usage on a range of SIM-only and SIM + device deals.
MTN just need to sort out their portal so one can see in real time (or close to it) and easily how much data is left. Telkom still beats them there with an SMS from the router which gives precise info.

They are close with prices. I like both, BUT.... When Eskom pulls the plug, I find that in various places, KZN, FS, and JHB, the MTN signal drops to nothing, but the Telkom signal remain. Good if you have LTE internet running from a UPS.

Looks like the Future will be Telkom & MTN competing vigorously on price and products.

The others seem to be following yet they will tell you the market is very competitive......:)

The reason for this is that most Telkom towers are on old Telkom Exchange Premises which all have generators.

The generators power the Base Station Equipment at peak hence it performs well.

All other operators run on Battery power when the lights go off the towers try to keep only voice calls alive Data does not preference, hence you start to crawl with Data Speeds.

Moved to fiber years ago with Cool Ideas uncapped unshapped unlimited and fast 50/50 for R900 p/m. Never thought about how much data I use. For years I have been free from this capped nonsense. Do you how good it feels to not have to worry if you are going to be cut off because you have reached you cap. I can download big 150gb games and not have to worry.
