Hi folks

Currently all sections of MyBroadband have a fixed width, except the forum. We are planning to create a fixed width template for the forum as well, with the current ‘liquid’ theme as an option for registered members (you will therefore be able to set the template of choice).

Is this acceptable to you? Any suggestions?

As long as we don't get this [--------|forum|-------] I'd like it wide as possible, staying full screen.

Dark themes would really be appreciated where it's less white, less glare on the eyes :)

As long as the liquid option is still available I don't have an issue. Just make sure whatever developments happen on the fixed sized theme get carried over to the liquid one.

I personally hate fixed width sites. What a waste of real estate on large screens.

Why the jump? Those with smaller screens are fine and those who have larger screens are also fine. The only people I know that whine about fixed width are graphics artists.

I am fine with how Mybb forum is shown on my laptop, PC screen and phone screen so why change it? All we need is custom forum templates so we can make it less glary.

As said above... as long as there is a liquid option, I do not mind.

As for "glary", I agree... perhaps a text font colour change from blue to black for now ?
The blue on white is eina... I thankfully can use stylish for FF and a custom site style for Opera... less ow on the eyes.

I'm thinking my eyes are either less sensitive or my lighting is okay cos I've got no problem with the brightness of the site. This is more apparent to me on pages which have sharp contrasts of light & dark colours.

I cannot view the "normal" site for any length of time... my eyes tire quickly on my laptop and LCD...

I have had to modify the style sheet so I can stay online here ad infinitum...

It is indeed a very personal preference.

Interesting. Maybe we should put it to a vote. I'm happy so long as the site doesn't look like it's designed for a terminal window.

because your eye finds it easier to read narrower columns of text.

I like this grey, how can i change to this plz?

Hell no Murray, I utilise my whole width plus extra ( dev on two screens so pretty normal to have large widths ) but if we have the option to leave as is, I'm happy.

I agree with Fudzy, offer dark theme & original layout as options if you must go fixed width...

I'd like to echo the sentiments of the rest: we don't really need fixed width, but if we must have it, keep both options available. The current fluid theme works great - but needs to be made darker (not too dark though) to help with the glare.

BTW - when are we getting a MyBroadband Android/iOS app? I know that there is already one for the forum, but I am specifically referring to a NEWS app, for the main website. News24 have one, and MyBB should too!

a wide horizontal visual arc is not a feature of human vision.
we are predatory animals with frontally located eyes.

The ideal line length for text layout is based on the physiology of the human eye… At normal reading distance the arc of the visual field is only a few inches – about the width of a well-designed column of text, or about 12 words per line. Research shows that reading slows and retention rates fall as line length begins to exceed the ideal width, because the reader then needs to use the muscles of the eye and neck to track from the end of one line to the beginning of the next line. If the eye must traverse great distances on the page, the reader is easily lost and must hunt for the beginning of the next line. Quantitative studies show that moderate line lengths significantly increase the legibility of text.
