FNB Connect Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Well the FNB-Connect website will also tell you your reward/discount level.

That said, I got myself the 384k account as a backup account. Browsing on it was slow. Torrents and dc++ was dead.
NNTP on the other hand was full account speed.

According to their support, they throttle you to 1mbps on a 10mbps line if you exceed 10gigs download for the day.

Good luck trying to find that on their website, or even in their AUP. Good luck even trying to find the AUP.

100%

It's a real pity because I would see incredibly quick speeds on FNB connection. Netflix, for example, would stream 1080P Super HD within 1 minute of starting a show. No other ISP I have used so far was able to do that.

Got my 4meg uncapped for R80 pm activated today. Browsing is perfect and downloading the Bf4 update with Origin went at full speeds.

With the news server, test.xennanews.com , I downloaded around 500megs at full speeds but then it just dropped to 12kbps.

Will the news servers go faster after hours or is this thing a fail?

You may have downloaded in excess of what they deem acceptable.

Best to call the call centre, they'll send you a link to download and request a speedtest.

They got back to me the next day saying I had been throttled for excessive usage.

I finally got to join today , paid R80 for this month from my ebucks , and free from next month!

So far nttp full speed , 20 connections

Seems account is hard capped at 4mbs , not even speedtest goes over 4mbs.

Hi guys. I have recently moved out of the house where my Mom stays and taking the uncapped ADSL account with me. I am looking for solutions and stumbled upon FNB Connect. For this month she is eligible for a free 4Mbps uncapped account, however from what I understand this can change every month depending on what tier you are on. Is there a way to check your history to make sure my mom has maintained a certain tier every month? The last thing I would want is her to get blasted with a huge bill because all she does is a bit of browsing and email.

I had the same experience, initially. The account was lightning fast (10mbps/uncapped). Netflix streamed at Super HD almost instantaneously. NNTP maxed out at 1MB/s.

However, it was short-lived. After a few days of using my new line for very little asides from streaming, they started to throttle me daily (in a 24-hour cycle) once I had exceeded 10 gigabytes for the day.

Would be interested to know if their policy is still the same, because I am interested in giving them another go in the near future.

I received a call from fnbconnect today asking if i would reconsider using them as an isp again. Apparently they have now changed their policy on P2P filesharing and will no longer block it but only shape it during peak load.

What is the current experiencing like with fnbconnect? Do they throttle easily and what about shaping?

I have the 4Mbps account, currently standing on 151GB done this month so far, with estimated sitting at 260GB according to my Observium bill monitoring.

Using the correct way downloading Linux Distros, I didn't even realize that regular downloads actually do get shaped and/or throttled. For example, when updating a clean CentOS 6.5 install just now now, updates went at a little less than 25% of account speed, which was 88KB/sec. Going back to my regular Linux Distro downloading...full account speed. That however will be seen as bypassing shaping because it is the same method I used on Axxess.

That said, this account is great for streaming. Where I have seen others having issues with NTV, my NTV stream perfect. The account definitely start to feel like it is managed much the same way that Afrihost/Axxess accounts are managed on the MTN-B network, with the exception there is no turbo button ect.
