FNB Connect Uncapped ADSL Feedback

I have the 4Mbps account, currently standing on 151GB done this month so far, with estimated sitting at 260GB according to my Observium bill monitoring.

Using the correct way downloading Linux Distros, I didn't even realize that regular downloads actually do get shaped and/or throttled. For example, when updating a clean CentOS 6.5 install just now now, updates went at a little less than 25% of account speed, which was 88KB/sec. Going back to my regular Linux Distro downloading...full account speed. That however will be seen as bypassing shaping because it is the same method I used on Axxess.

That said, this account is great for streaming. Where I have seen others having issues with NTV, my NTV stream perfect. The account definitely start to feel like it is managed much the same way that Afrihost/Axxess accounts are managed on the MTN-B network, with the exception there is no turbo button ect.

How much do you pay per month? Im on the website and calculated cost saccording to rewards level...

4MB Uncapped prorata march R170.53
Less uncapped discount R159.60
R10.93

Not sure if i pay R10.93 or R159.63...

Currently I pay R79.80 per month for the 4Mbps account on reward level 4.

What you see, is the prorate rate, then with discount added. So for this month only you will pay R10.93 + R170.53 (for next month), then from there on it will be R170.53 every month if your reward level doesn;t change.

Ok looks like after 180GB this month, on the 4Mbps account, I am now 24/7 throttled/shaped on all p2p including nntp over ssl.
Windows update still downloaded fairly fast, browsing is good, didn't really test streaming or gaming.

Thanks for the info... Im on level 3 so my monthly pay is R263 40% saving

I took the 4mb to try out... Streaming seems fine but not top notch quality yet...

Whats speeds do you get? I tested ookla from iphone... Shows im getting 2.7mb

will do a test when back home, but I easily.get 4Mbps on speedtest. When not shaped, downloads are 460KBps, but now that I am shaped, nntp downloads go at 15KBps.

So i'm using the account for a few days now... seems to be working fine and tbh... works way better than OW and AH... i get good speeds around 3.6kbps, plus streaming(netflix, hulu, youtube) works nice all day and night although if i'm streaming, then browsing gets abit slow...

i havent really downloaded anything yet... will feedback on that when i do...

i did however notice, i use unotelly, the ip and dns is always updated, but every now and then i get messages from hulu and netflix that the app is not available in my country or the title is unavailable to play at that moment... then i just update my ip and all is working again...

now i dont think its a unotelly problem because it doesnt happen when i use my other isp accounts, only on FNB... anybody got any clues to why this happens?

3.6kpbs is relatively slow. I assume you meant mbps?

Ohhhh, that's interesting. Want to PM me how you get it to work?
Seedboxes are no secret, but it does cost extra money.

You can find all sorts of howto's ect via Google, but the just of it comes down to this: You make use of a server, or virtual private server (VPS) or even hosted seedbox solution on the internet, which is the part that costs money. You then use that seedbox to download the torrent for you. Once it is downloaded on that seedbox, you download it to your pc via fnb-connect using a different protocol, easiest being SFTP via FileZilla.

That said, the above can and will be seen as bypassing shaping protocols, but having P2P completely blocked on FNB-Connect, has forced me to use a seedbox for the odd torrent that I do download. Most of my downloads is from usenet/news-servers so most of the time I am not blocked from using that.

Is bypassing shaping protocols against the terms and conditions?

What I really wanted to know is what seedbox you are using.

Did another one :

Have you tried using another ISP's account? Try Afrihost and Web Africa's capped accounts. If they perform properly, then it means that it's your FNB account, if not, then it could be your line, router, router's wifi or your phones wifi.
