FNB Connect Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Did more torrent testing. Had a bunch of torrents going simultaneously and together they were going at around 400kb/s so that is not bad at all. This was during the early evening though.

Streaming from youtube and twitch.tv is a little up and down. Sometimes its awesome, sometimes not. I have an Afrihost trail so I will see how it compares.

awesome, thx for the feedback again.

So I guess the only question left now is....how will nntp do on these.

I want to go over to FNB uncapped as well. Very cheap thanks to activity on my cheque account.
So keep it coming. :-D

Tried it last month on 1Mbps and was not impressed. Torrents where rotten, a lot of security updates I needed to do on my Ubuntu PC did not come through and I even had problems with my Windows8 not authenticating a new user over the net.

Lots of Big Brother on their network.

I would say that if your a capped user looking for a little bit freedom and this will not cost you more, then do consider it.

I've gone over to Telkom and very happy them

You complain about torrents after they clearly showed on their website that torrents and p2p are restricted? Funny.

That said, I am a little worried about the windows updates, so will have to see. Their capped accounts still work great at least.

All tests done on 4mb ADSL line (hosted by Telkom) around the same time. The Afrihost one wasnt completely fair as it was done on a capped account, but anyway.

Plugg 4mb uncapped -

Afrihost (1 gig trial account capped) -

FNB 4mb uncapped -

Nope, tests were certainly not done on a 4Mbit line. Looks more like the line is syncing at 6Mbps or maybe higher.

Hmm, well I applied for a 4mb line. Not sure how to check what speed is it syncing at through this Apple Airport Extreme. Will connect directly to the model and check a bit later though.

you can check your monthly points now on the new ebucks website. ( like on the old fnb rewards section)

seems i did not get that overdraft use one yet :(

Awesome!!

Seems I did get it in August.

In August you collected points for... Max points Your points
Using one of the following credit products:
An overdraft facility of R500 or more where you use at least 10%
Temporary loan, or a
Revolving loan.
300

In fact, I got exactly 1900 points last month, which is exactly what I calculated I should get :) :) :)

Well the thing is, you buy stuff on the card or so, then it take a few days before it actually deducts from the account. So I usually wait till the 2nd week of the month, when most payments have gone off my card ect, then pay a few things with the card, just over R250 and draw R500 from PnP, wait a few days for that to then let the account go into overdraft, and then the next day or so I will move money back in for the 25th, when the Mobile device payment goes off.

Restricted, more like non existent. And I am aware of their statement and was not bothered as I expected them to take the same approach as all the other ISPs with P2P during business hours.

Not everything I download is from P2P. I support HumbleBundle and seeding is important to assist others (all legal content).

But it was not for me.

I doubt it is about whether it is legal or not, they probably just don't want that kind of traffic on their network. The word "restricted" was pretty clear to me, eg. will be blocked.

I can understand if you need to do legal torrenting every now and again, but it is kinda a moot point to complain about, having known it is blocked beforehand.

That said, I do welcome stating facts, that torrents are not working on their network, which is important for others to know beforehand IMHO :)

Restricted implied limited and in no way did they say torrenting was not allowed on their network. They did say their restrictions throttled torrents, never said they where blocked.

Anyway, I've shared my experience and moved on.

Anyone else had any issues with FNB Connect?

I have been having issues and am not sure if it is my DSL connection or the ISP.

Seems to happen reasonably often, if I try go to a web site in the browser is not able to connect.

The line however does not disconnect, it still has an IP address on the router and the router says it is still connected. I am able to ping google.com but cannot got to web sites using my browser.

If I disconnect the modem and then reconnect the problem is usually sorted.

Thought it might be a DNS issue so switched to OPENdns but issue seems to remain.

Anyone else experiencing this or anyone have any other ideas?

I am getting the same problem... It's as though it loses connectivity for a minute or two and then just pops up working again - without a session drop.

I know its not line related because I have two other PPPoE sessions initiated and working on the same line that do not do this.

One thing I will say - FNB Uncapped = brilliant for me. I've got a free 4meg uncapped and for the first 150 gigs I was downloading at 8Mbps+ - now its down to a constant 4Meg and I've managed to pull 260 gigs in the last week... Thanks FNB!
