FNB Connect Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Change some setting in uTorrent and speed are up to 300kB/s

Capture.jpg

Changes that I made was to randomise the port and turned on forced encryption on outgoing connections.

Tested torrents again and it's back to a crawl.

Everything else is working fine. Sticking to TI and keeping this as a backup. At least I have a free backup account should TI fail.

I just bought the uncapped as I ran out of bandwidth this morning (just moved house so went to capped as I was without a line for nearly 3 weeks until yesterday).

1Mbps line

When I do speed tests I get poor results for my pings, but general surfing is very good.1Mbp

Sorry Afrihost, but youtube is better than your business uncapped account. No buffering at 360p, buffers higher than that but I'm on 1Mbps and my local exchange has always had a high contention ratio on the entry level speed.

Steam install last night of 250MB (Guys please check out the latest Humble Bundle Weekly Sale, its awesome!!!!) went full speed.

But still too early to give a verdict. I did however just pay R110 for the account based on my minimal rewards and pro-ratio. I only opened my FNB account a few days ago and so far not used it for any transactions or salary deposits.

Dont think there that many uses on this product yet, so very little feedback. Also no official FNBConnect rep either so think that also plays a role.

I am currently on reward level 2, so only 20% discount for me. Which means I will stay with my 3gbyte free capped account for now, until I reach at least reward level 4, which will only be 2014 Feb for me, I should reach level 3 in Dec this year. Reason for that is, I currently do have a free 10mbit openweb account, so will be using it for now.

FNB Uncapped: Feedback

There doesn't seem to be any info on the forum yet about peoples experience using FNB's new uncapped product from what I can find?

Anyway, I bought their product and will be trying it out tonight and for the rest of the month. Very interested to see how it performs. I will be using it for gaming (league of legends) and streaming mostly with some downloading. I am not a massive user though and will probably do less than 100 gigs/month (4mb line).

If anyone else has any feedback I would love to hear it.

I currently have a ticket open with FNB Connect, because latencies on these accounts are high when playing games on servers hosted on the MTN Business network.

Just got a call from FNB-Connect, their engineers found the issue with the above and is is now resolved.

Took 3 days or so, but it is good to know you can get things properly escalated to a Bank's network engineers :)

Somebody must have been downloading torrents on their 10gig pipe :D

Tested some youtube streaming last night on the 4mb fnb uncapped account. 720p seemed fine but 1080p buffered quite a bit. Not sure how normal this is though, can any of the ISP's claim buffer-free streaming for 1080p on a 4mb line?

yes 4mb account on 5mb line should handle 1080p just just , 4mb account max limit is around 500kbs , 4mb line can only do 430kbs download.

I have been using the 4mb FNB uncapped for the last couple days now. So far it seems like pings to Europe for gaming are pretty much perfect. In league of legends i get a stable 200 ping and there was 0 packet loss.

Torrents didnt seem to run at all though and even http downloads weren't very good. Streaming on YouTube was up and down but generally not amazing. I will test out some other ISP's to see how they compare.

Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming :)

Did some more testing with torrents last night. Had 5 torrents downloading at the same time (with average seeds), combined they were going at 100k/s which I guess is not too bad. I tried to d/l an actual torrent file (from isohunt) and it failed to download, even though the file is around 10kb.

Could someone give me a link to download something on HTTP, ideally from Microsoft or something. Or if there is a better place to test http download speeds.
