FNB Connect Uncapped ADSL Feedback

So if you stay within the 10gig per day, after you download after peak, you should be able to pull from torrents and nzbs?

Important note:

Cancellations of Uncapped Accounts:

Uncapped accounts are billed monthly in advance.
You will be billed on the 26th day of the month for the next months allocation.
Therefore, if you cancel on or before the 25th of the month, we will cancel your account at the end of the current month.
If you cancel your account on or before the 26th of the month, your account will be debited for the next month, and will only be cancelled in the month thereafter

When an account is cancelled, it cannot be reactivated
What do they mean it can't be reactivated?? I'm planning on cancelling for February and then I might reactivate for March.

I suspect it is because of the way their pro-rata discounts work, they've included that clause to prevent abuse.

I asked FNB Connect a while back what is required to reactivate and the feedback was that you would need to write a motivation/request, that would be reviewed by someone (management?) to decide whether to reactivate you..

Jeez... so as a path of least resistance then maybe I shall just downgrade to 1 or 2mbps for February as I only get 80% discount for February and I'm finding the performance of this account rather poor this month.

I just assumed it meant you lose the username?

I've found this month that they are limiting my NNTP download speeds to 100KB/s on a 4mbps account and (afrihost) line, and I am keeping under the 10GB per day download limit! That is the main reason I wanted to cancel for February. Anyone else finding they are getting throttled?

If I downgrade to a 2mbps FNB uncapped package will they throttle me to 50KB/s or will it remain at 100KB/s?

That's what I did when the new ebucks rules had kicked in because I was unsure what my RL was going to be..

Downgrading to 2mbps FNB uncapped for February, will see how that goes and whether they throttle NNTP traffic to a quarter of line speed or a straight 100KB/s.

When you exceed 10GB for a day, at what point do they forgive and forget and stop throttling you after that?

It's gonna take me a while to read through this
Well what is it you want to know? :) IMO the product isn't worth it unless you getting it free or *maybe* worth it at 80% discount. It can be frustratingly slow at times. At best it's saving me R200 a month on a 2mbps line. It's not truly uncapped as I think they throttle at 10GB per day (based on what others have said).

Well I finally burnt through my 1tb data from Vox so now I'm on the lookout for a new isp. I'm on RL 5 with ebucks so I qualify for 100% off a 4meg line.

I don't trust this account especially if youre a streamer. Have had on/off performances. Use it just as a backup

Yeah, it's inconsistent for torrents and NNTP downloads but then again so was Afrihost. I think from next month I might supplement my free FNB account with a 75GB WebAfrica account.

My router schedules my internet for me.

Monday to Friday 6am to 6pm it uses FNB Connect 4Mbps.
Monday to Friday 6pm to 6am it uses VOX gig4gig with Bolt-on uncappped
Saturday and Sunday it uses VOX gig4gig with Bolt-on uncappped

That way, my data costs me R59 a month.
I also have a WA account for when I want to game or such, mostly because VOX has latency issues every single night in the South.
