FNB Connect Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Hi,

I need some help please. I signed up for 4mb uncapped ADSL from FNB Connect.

Currently i have a 4mb uncapped + line with MWEB which is my primary account.

Ive used the FNB account twice now and noticed the following:
- One my connected deviced i.e. tablet and phones, i do not receive any notifications from apps both IM chats as well as other apps such as sports apps.
- My line speed seems very slow but doing a speed test results in 3,47 Download 0,46 Upload and 11 ping.
- When playing mobile games on both phone and tablet which are linked to Google Play and Facebook, it takes really long to log in and sync.

Is this normal for this account? Does it matter that my line is from MWEB and not directly from Telkom? Resulting in me being shaped or throttled more?

Ive tried two different modems over two days. The MWEB FON modem and the Billion from MWEB. The only settings i changed was the username and password. Is there any other settings i need to change on the modem?

Please advise if there are any tests or changes i should do.

Thank you,

I have very similar results from this account. I have the 6mg uncapped account. To put it bluntly, its crap.

I think its free because nobody would pay for this crap. None of the cell phone games work at all(ie COC and so on), games like POE are simply unplayable due to such a bad ping, whatsapp and other messaging apps dont work, dont even think about netflix.

Now I see they are advertising that they are changing all their accounts to "uncapped". Bah. What a load of BS.

^^ Same here on the delayed Whatsapp messages, but I didn't realise it might be the FNB account causing it.

I'm happy to keep using this account, but I suppose it should come with a warning label. I'm watching my spending these days so I'm happy to save the R150 odd I would be paying for a capped account.

I use this account in conjunction with a Telkom 10GB account, which will be bumped up to 20GB for a few months :)

Thanks for the feedback. Glad its not my line. I guess for free as a backup account it could come in handy at times. :)

I feel sorry for the poor sucker who is paying for this account. I rate it 1/10 . If it wasn't free for me , I would never pay for this schit

Agreed. It's very variable. Worth no more than R50.

Updating my wife's iphone at the moment. It said 18 hours remaining. I laughed. 5 hours later....it says 16 hours remaining. Not funny any more!!!

A day or two ago my housemate was streaming Youtube while I was watching another stream at the same time. No problem. An hour or day later it buffers any video. It must be the lowest priority throw away accounts.

Uuuuhhh! My Telkom bandwidth finished. I forget how useless this free account is. Unusable at times

Is it thaaat bad?

I think I should not waste my time getting it as a back-up even then.

2 months ago I was on level 4. It pained me to actually pay R59 for this account. Yes, it can be that bad, but I am referring mainly to streaming which is what I use my home internet for

I think I'll give it a skip.

There is nothing more frustrating than a slow internet connection. It is the true test of patience.

Look, i use this account during my waking hours and i find it fine. Do game downloads etc... All fine. If hitting newsgroups with it you need a separate subs like nextgennews.

It's 'free' though. If paying then get something else.

I'm on a 4mbps account but my line is 2mbps.

FNB Connect uncapped restricts Clash Of Clans (COC)

I tried uncapped last month, however kids had issue with playing Clash of Clans over the net... They found it very slow. I guess this falls under p2p and therefore restricted?

I have become very disappointed in the Uncapped service from FNB Connect for this very reason. There is no evidence to suggest that the popular Android game, Clash Of Clans by SuperCell, works via any kind of Peer2Peer exchange mechanism. The game uses a tiny amount of bandwidth to play - and has a typical TCP sockets data exchange mechanism which drives the user experience.

Indeed FNB Connect's uncapped ADSL is affordable and hense governed by a fair usage policy where certain types of IP traffic are restricted, but I challenge anyone to explain why my favourite mobile game is blocked / restricted :-( any help in resolving this crisis would be sincerely appreciated.
