FNB Global Account Card

Hey all,

Please advise how to transfer to my Global Acc from my cheque account.
If I go to Transfers on internet banking, I can choose my "from" account (Cheque) but my Global Acc is not listed under the "to" acc list.

The following screen shot indicates this is how it should be done though...

It's under global transfers and not the normal transfers.

Ah, okay. Did not even know this could be done.
I'm not entirely sure it can be, but it's worth asking. The way I see it is that it's another forex transaction like any other and it's not the only option available if I want to spend money in Europe. Having the card is a bonus for the lounges even if I land up not using the global account.

Anyone know if using a Euro global account card for Airbnb bookings (European holiday bookings) is fine? Will I billed in Euro's (when the Airbnb booking is listed in and my currency settings on the platform is in Euro's)?

Yes I was billed euro on ebay when select euro.

Shot, will give it a whirl now

Thanks again, worked as hoped.
Interestingly, the first 50% booking payment made last month was billed (and reflects on my receipt) in ZAR. This is what concerned me about now using the GA card. I have since changed my account settings to reflect EURO's as the preferred currency etc. Instead of waiting for the actual automatic payment date for the balance of the booking to come around, I updated billing details to new GA card and selected to pay balance now. The incontact notice reflected EURO payment and the receipt from Airbnb reflects Euro's now. Good result. My other 3 Airbnb bookings have been updated to come off GA card as well now.

Anyone tried having money paid in from abroad?
  • Earnings from abroad can be paid directly into your Global Account when working abroad, in line with the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) requirements

Not yet, but I suspect that this would work like a normal forex transaction. The payment would probably be made to FNB in South Africa. You would need to log in to FNB, approve the transaction, provide the reason for the payment and then it will likely clear into your account. This is probably what will happen, when they mention "in line with the SARB requirements".

Trip report - used my FNB Global (USD) card in multiple European countries - zero issues. Lounge Key also worked perfectly. Big thumbs up

I just used my Euro card to pay for a phone in Dubai, and while paying the guy asked if I was paying in Rand or Dirham? I asked is there no choice for Euro and he said no.

I picked Dirham to negate a conversion fee, and I get my transaction sms from FNB showing the deduction in Euros.

I wonder why there was no option to pay in Euros when that is the currency on the card?

(For interests sake, using XE app they charged about 6 Euros more than the mid price.)

Does the guy in Dubai accept Euro's?

Its duty free at the airport and I think they’d be paid in Dirhams regardless. Point is that the choice of billing against my card was Rand or Dirham, not Euros.

So either way, a conversion to Euros has to be made and a commission taken. Because my account reflects only a Euro amount taken.

I find it odd that Rand is an option when it’s a Euro account. Fair enough if it’s my normal FNB credit card, that’s always the choice. Local currency or Rand. I expected now the choice to be Dirham or Euro.

That’s harder to explain than I thought it would be :p

I think it's based on your destination.
