Hi All,

I'm kind of wondering if anyone else has noticed that FNB has sent a notice in November/December that they will not be sending out personal account statements anymore to your email?

I've been an FNB customer since I was 10 years or so when my mother opened my account. I've had several businesses with Accounts at FNB, I've got most all their investments accounts, credit card, cheque account, savings pockets, notice deposit, tax-free savings, shares account, geez my FNB profile looks like a excel sheet full of accounts. This is really in part because of all the great things they have brought.

But really! Now they "expect" me to log onto their App each month and manually download my bank statement. If you don't do this, you have to pay for them to send any statements to you for older than 3 months.

I've got years and years of statements in my email. I even receive the CSV file that they include with your bank statement.

I wonder which idiot thought it would be a good move to stop sending email statements? I mean this is totally ridiculous. I've logged a complaint and they phoned me back and emailed the ones since December for me, but they can't even make an exception for me, I have to either download the statements each month or call them and they can email it to me.

I'm now considering moving to Capitec since they have way better bank account subscription fees, and as far as I know, they still email their account statements to you.

Basically they now ONLY email statements if you have a business account or FNB Enterprise (which I also have both of.).

Does anyone else feel like this is a d1ck move?

Its so easy to log onto internet banking and they keep it for 5 years.

I'm not too bothered by it, but I have only two accounts. I'll download it during one of the many times i log in.

Yes but you pay to access it, don't you? Also it's a lot easier to have free & automatic records kept in your email each month. You know they're there whenever you need to query something. I'd still rather just check my email than log in to FNB and do stuff to get at it.

It's about money. You going to forget to download and then have to pay.

this.

and once u scale it up. how many FNB online users? million? 2 million

i find it ridiculous to charge for a pdf download after a few months Its sitting on the server, not like someone has to go dig in the basement to give it to u

It's pathetic. Most bank fees in general is pathetic.

Yes, one will forget, and also it is really necessary basic function to send someone a statement or bill if you charge them for a service. I completely understood why they pushed years ago for NOT sending statements to postal boxes, and rather email them to you, but now they have no alternative, except making you do the work of getting your bill/statement.

Yes, you pay, you can only download the last 3 months for free if you require 12 months you need to pay 12 x the price of one page.

I also rather just check my email. With Gmail, you can search inside PDFs so I can search for transactions right in Gmail.

I actually thought this move was going to be paired with giving you access to your full transaction history online or giving you access to download all the (existing) pdf statements for free for the whole history.

I'm with you on this one. It costs the bank nothing to give you the pdf file. But this is one of those legacy charges that just never went away. They probably make thousands from charging this fee, and now they just opened a totally new revenue stream...

I cut all ties with FNB about 15 years ago, after they handed me over to a debt collector for being more than 10 years AHEAD on my home bond account.

Real bunch of retards that work in their call centre, where they could not figure out why their system was flagging my account as being in arrears.

I'm still getting my statements for my cheque account emailed monthly. Got March's on the 3rd.

Que? They never did that. They only send you your CC statements. FNB is playing catchup here.

They have only stopped the statements on my Gold Cheque account. I got a inContact message about it. Also they replied the following on my complaint:

Thank you for your email.

Please be advised that your business account are registered for email statements and with the cheque account statements will be available for download on the app and online banking

Not sure if it is ONLY cheque or other personal accounts as well.

Just make sure it's not your linked savings pocket. My cheque card stopped being sent, looking which bank I can move to.

Someone else I know also couldn't cancel their share builder and other investment accounts. The branch and call center give you the run around.

Let me/us know if you have a good contender... I've got a lot of colleagues that use Capitec for their low account fees, also faster payment processing as well. But if they don't email bank statements, it's a bust.

Yes that's what I've said... Why do you need it anyway? I just downloaded a 3 month one from when I opened the account back in 2013.

Because then I have a full history of my transactions. I will need them for when SARS want to audit me or if I have to find anomalies in payments / debit orders. It's in general a good practice to keep your financial records for 5 years.

If you download a statement of older than 3 months, you have to pay a fee as well.

It's free with Capitec. Plus why I don't use debit orders.
