FNB uncapped ADSL: 80% discount planned

In other word you have to jump through hoops and they force you to use your credit card... Hmm... Okay. That's just super thanks.

Sounds more like MMO grind than banking to me.

Depends how you use your money. I already used my credit card almost exclusively - hate carrying cash around. With FNB at least I get something back. With Standard I was spending the same amount of money anyway, just with NO return. (And it's not as if the fees were lower)

when i queried them about it, their response was "Ah well, at least you're getting R500 a month back - its better than nothing"

Wtf? thats a stupid response. Basically they're making sure you can NEVER make a profit out of it. If they uncapped the limit, then loads of people would make more ebucks than their overall bank costs, and FNB would lose

A while ago I was also asked why I am complaining when I get rewarded, so I decided to shut up and get the **** out of there. If they can ask you these questions, nothing will stop them from jumping over that counter and moering you!

To me it is small changes, not really jumping through hoops. It is not like it is taking up hours of my time like a mmo grind, more like a few seconds a month.

Up to you whether you want the extra rewards or not, but I have been with FNB since I was a student, and never had problems with them, in fact, this up to 100% discount on an uncapped account is going to be a HUGE bonus to me, added on top of the other bonus's I have had so far from ebucks. My only problem with this is, I wonder how long it is going to last.

Hey Guys, - to all those capitec fanboys!

RE: - you can pay Zero bank fees with cheque accounts at FNB - if you are on the fee-saver cheque account option.
You pay zero fees on cheque account.
Two terms & conditions are: on gold account you need to keep you balance above R9000 all the time, and only the first 30 or 35 transactions are free (debit, withdraw, eft etc)

So i pay zero fees for FNB cheque account, just FNB credit card and ebucks on CC.
:)

Actually it is not that hard.

My CC spend is usually less than R10k/month and I earn around 3500 ebucks/month.

The clue is to get your level points up, and that is very easy to do. If you don't know what you are missing, there is a very nice detail explanation on the internet banking website that will show you what you need to do. I am currently on level 4 which is 7.5% ebucks back on fuel, and I am working on the last few things to get it up to level 5 for 15% for fuel.

To see what you need to do or change to go up in levels is easy:
1. log on to internet banking
2. click on rewards tab top left
3. click on "FNB Rewards" on the left menu
4. click on account where you want to earn, mine is "FNB Cheque Account" or "Platinum Card"
5. now scroll down to "My points for March 2013"

Here you can see a breakdown on how to earn points to go up in levels, and its small things you can change, like:
- Set up an AutoPayment, I have always manually moved money each month from my cheque to cc, I am losing out in points, so I have set up an automated payment with a set amount so that I can get these points
- Use Straight Facility Effectively 250 points - easy if you just swipe your card
- Use Budget Facility Effectively 150 points - once a month just buy 1 item over R200 on budget, you can go and pay it off immediately on internet banking so that you don't have to pay interest, and if you have a smart device, that payment is 100% free too.
- Spend on my Credit Card 0-650 points, I get 300points here because I never max out my card, even worse, I have never let them give me the max credit on it they allow, I asked to have it lower than my monthly salary is, so I guess I am capping myself here, but for good reason.
- Pay your account on time 400 points, I get all 400 because I pay off my card every month, same day, usually a day or so after receiving my salary. That is because I don't believe in being in debt, the credit card is merely used so that I don't have to carry around cash, so convenience.

That is just some of things you can and should do, everything is listed there on the internet banking website, with ticks and points you can earn and what you earn, NOTHING is hidden, it is pretty clear what you need to do to get up to level 5. Like I said, I am on level 4, and I am about 150 points away/month from level 5, so I am working on the last slight few things to get it, and I didn't even need to call FNB to get this information.

saving this thanx , moving my absa Cc to fnb as soon as i can.

R9000 in my Capitec account nets me ~R40 in interest, my average montly cost is ~R35 per month (debit orders, transfers, notifications)

Still cheaper.

The eBucks does look interesting though.

can fnb move my Cc from absa to them , or will i have to cancel at absa then wait for my credit report to reflect it , as i pretty sure i don't qualify for any more credit with my salary , I don't have any debt on my cc.

exactly.. like they're doing you some big favour, and who the fk are you to be ungrateful.

on a slightly tangetial note, I want to early settle my galaxy tab with fnb so that I can get an Ipad. Yes, you can do it, but it costs you about R1500 MORE to settle early, than to just wait the contract out.

wtf?

Yep, that is part of the agreement. If you want to settle your device earlier, you will need to pay the difference between the actual value of the device and the discounted fee they offered it to you.

I was also interested in settling my iPad and get a MacBook, but not anymore.

I get that its part of the agreement, but whats the point? Surely they would want to encourage someone to get another device. Alternatively, why not allow more than one device contract at a time?

It has to do with the monthly interest the bank makes on your repayment. Early cancellation or settlement deprives them from further interest.

Because they make almost no money out of actually selling devices. The benefit for them is to ensure you stay a customer for two years. That is their goal.

You could always just move banks and then get none of these services and extras for the same fees...

Not quite, I know for a fact that FNB gets the devices at great rates. I know this for a fact.

Be that as it may, how much does tablet sales contribute to overall group revenue/profits? Not much. Being able to retain customers over a two year period is priceless to them.

No, you are indeed right. This has all to do with increasing their client base and also to get current clients to make use of more services. This do, in fact, generate a substantial amount of revenue for the bank. All the extras, such as bank costs, etc., account for a lot more.

But, it is a fact that they do get the devices at a huge discount, a lot more at what they are offering them to clients. I just wanted to mention that.

"Ensure that you do not perform any transactions at a branch each month (use FNB's electronic channels instead)"
Was that requirement always there?

Not sure, how often does one go into the bank though? I only go in if I've lost the argument surrounding NOT having to go in. Stupid FICA.
