FNB uncapped ADSL: 80% discount planned

With smart account i was getting about 400-500 total ebucks , with only about R3000 total spend in swiping , with no extra products.

Unbelievable, I do not know what I am doing wrong, but I spend around 40k - 50k a month on my platinum card and don't even get close to your amounts.

Between spending on my cheque card, fuel purchases, and swiping at places like makro with the ebucks card itself I get about eb700 and up a month.

Also see that the 3G data is only for the FNB Smartphone / Tablet contract holders - this used to be for everybody who provisioned a SIM with the FNB APN in the past.

I don't want to have to carry 'nuisance cards', (Clicks & Pick n Pay etc), I don't want holidays or competitions from my Medical Aid scheme, I don't want techie trinkets from my bank etc etc. In short, don't take my money from me in the first place, then give some of my own money back to me as if you are doing me a favour – never mind the fact that I must return to you again & again. I realise you are dealing with unsophisticated, gullible consumers in South Africa, but please, just give me service excellence at a reasonable price. Leave some of my money in my pocket. I am quit capable of spending it on what I desire, myself!

Yep... If you ask me a bank is better when it just sticks to the basics and gives good home loans and good interest rates on savings and investment accounts. That way its simple to see the benefit you get. I know for a fact that FNB interest rates on saving accounts are not nearly as good as my bank's. So what is the point then? They are just spreading the benefit differently. I save money - And my bank pays me to do it. My money works for me. When I want something then I just buy it. That's real convenience. And if you say you can't save then I tell you bollocks. Even in this day and age if you can save a couple of hundred a month and get interest on that then you are doing yourself a favour. If I knew what I know now when I left school then I would have started doing exactly that. I would have been light years ahead of where I am now financially. I did the calculations. Saving beats spending money on crap any day.

And may I add that as somebody who has done a lot of research into the benefits from the various banks I find their radio adds quite irritating. Insulting.

That said... Cards like that provided by P&P, Clicks and Woolworths really do have their moments as long as you do not fall into the trap of spending more to save more. That's a complete illusion except if you are buying assets.

Surely eb700 is not R700?

So the above is what R91 odd.

Are you two bloody agents? Are you both working in FNB's marketing division, or are you part of the masses that have been brainwashed by FNB's marketing psychologists?

It is almost impossible to get eBucks that easy
Actually it is not that hard.

My CC spend is usually less than R10k/month and I earn around 3500 ebucks/month.

The clue is to get your level points up, and that is very easy to do. If you don't know what you are missing, there is a very nice detail explanation on the internet banking website that will show you what you need to do. I am currently on level 4 which is 7.5% ebucks back on fuel, and I am working on the last few things to get it up to level 5 for 15% for fuel.

To see what you need to do or change to go up in levels is easy:
1. log on to internet banking
2. click on rewards tab top left
3. click on "FNB Rewards" on the left menu
4. click on account where you want to earn, mine is "FNB Cheque Account" or "Platinum Card"
5. now scroll down to "My points for March 2013"

Here you can see a breakdown on how to earn points to go up in levels, and its small things you can change, like:
- Set up an AutoPayment, I have always manually moved money each month from my cheque to cc, I am losing out in points, so I have set up an automated payment with a set amount so that I can get these points
- Use Straight Facility Effectively 250 points - easy if you just swipe your card
- Use Budget Facility Effectively 150 points - once a month just buy 1 item over R200 on budget, you can go and pay it off immediately on internet banking so that you don't have to pay interest, and if you have a smart device, that payment is 100% free too.
- Spend on my Credit Card 0-650 points, I get 300points here because I never max out my card, even worse, I have never let them give me the max credit on it they allow, I asked to have it lower than my monthly salary is, so I guess I am capping myself here, but for good reason.
- Pay your account on time 400 points, I get all 400 because I pay off my card every month, same day, usually a day or so after receiving my salary. That is because I don't believe in being in debt, the credit card is merely used so that I don't have to carry around cash, so convenience.

That is just some of things you can and should do, everything is listed there on the internet banking website, with ticks and points you can earn and what you earn, NOTHING is hidden, it is pretty clear what you need to do to get up to level 5. Like I said, I am on level 4, and I am about 150 points away/month from level 5, so I am working on the last slight few things to get it, and I didn't even need to call FNB to get this information.

Something like that. Mine usually sits in the account until I want to buy something off Kalahari and I put it towards that.

<big spiel...>

In other word you have to jump through hoops and they force you to use your credit card... Hmm... Okay. That's just super thanks.

Sounds more like MMO grind than banking to me.

MY gripe is that theres a limit. You can only earn a MAX of EB5000 (R500) in ebucks per month. If there was no limit, I would be getting around a grand a month back, but they cap it...

If I add my card ebucks + fuel ebucks, I get around R700 back in total, but it could be much higher if it wasnt for that stupid limit

Now remember, the bank is not a charity organization they want to make money and a hell of a lot of it too.

Just re-read the the email that was sent to me this morning. As a platinum account holder on level 5, I will be getting the uncapped adsl at 100% discount.

Only question now would be at what speeds will the 100% discount apply.

when i queried them about it, their response was "Ah well, at least you're getting R500 a month back - its better than nothing"

Wtf? thats a stupid response. Basically they're making sure you can NEVER make a profit out of it. If they uncapped the limit, then loads of people would make more ebucks than their overall bank costs, and FNB would lose

You can easily extract even more value out of the eBucks. What I normally do with my ebucks is to buy Makro vouchers with 40% off and then spoil myself. Recently paid 30 000.00eB for R5 000.00 Makro vouchers and then still earn ebucks at Makro when I actually use the vouchers.
