Forcing Google Services to local (RSA) IP address

I've added every address I could see in the status bar to the HOSTS file with the 196.23.168.147 IP but it still doesn't work :(
The actual web page does not get redirected just some of the connections in the status bar when it tries to buffer the video. I'll try Firebug - thanks

This problem was stated earlyer, you just have to reload the page a few times, and you'll get it ^ ^

Or just use Youtube downloader and get it..
 
According to Catal's post on page two: "It gives an error if the video is not cached locally, but on your first attempt (where v*.nonxt*.c.youtube.com cannot be accessed) it initiates the local caching and then it should download the video from a x.lscachex.c.youtube.com on the second try. It also works with higher quality videos like 720p, just refresh after your first attempt. Most popular videos however are usually cached so it will work on the first try."

I did reload the page a few times - didn't work. Also the fact that it shows landingpages in the status bar each time, even for popular and featured videos (some of which should already be cached and should work on first try), makes me doubt that not reloading enough is the problem :(

Well Youtube is working fine, like really fine, I have already downloaded over 1GB of vids from youtube, I know some does come with errors, but just click a few more time..

well i was just thinking, could it be your browser? Because I think they said that IE 8 is s%%!t so I dont know.. :)
 
This isn't working for me.

After adding the additional routes to my hosts file and restarting my system, all Google domains are still routed to the international servers.

Is there something I'm missing?

Are you using a proxy for your browsing? What's the full path of the hosts file you edited? All entries must be in the format IP HOST, not HOST IP. If you add the host entry correctly, it has to work.

No proxy.

I used the path that was given in the first post and I copied and pasted it exactly like it is in that post.

I'm using Windows 7 x64.

It still doesn't work.
 
Hey guys. Not sure if this has been mentioned. (not going though 6 pages)
If you are on mac to do this follow these instructions:
1. Load up terminal
2. type in "cd /etc/"
3. Type in "nano Hosts"
4. you will now see your host file
5. copy in the data posted by Pada ( this should be quite easy!!!!!)
6. press ctrl + x and just say "Y" when it ask if you want to save.

And thats that.
(i hope my directions are correct!!)

Just keep on hitting the refresh button and it will work.
 
gumpy, my list WILL NOT WORK on Linux! You'll have to use Catal's list for Linux.

thanks for the post but it is a little easier if you do step 1 & 2 and then step 3: type "open hosts".

Will open the file in TextEdit and is easier to edit, just remember to 'save'.
 
In Ubuntu you can quickly edit the file using gedit with root privileges, by
  1. Run (using ALT+F2): gksu gedit /etc/hosts
  2. Edit the hosts file accordingly
  3. Save and Quit
* In Ubuntu the filename is 'hosts' (with small letters) and not 'Hosts' (camel case)!

PLEASE note that you'll have to use Catal's list and not mine as I've given in my first post!!! Mine works on Windows, but not on Linux.

Because I think you must replace everything.. (Well that's how I did it...)

I found the problem after reading a few more posts.

I only use google.co.za and not www.google.co.za, so I fixed the hosts file to let me access it without the www prefix, as was posted somewhere in this thread.

Gmail still doesn't redirect to local for me, anyone else experiencing the same?
 
On another note, will it be possible to configure a custom Google Apps mail URL to correctly redirect to the local Google IP?
