Ford Ecosport feedback please

Anyone with a fiesta have any aircon issues? Where the aircon is not as effective when the car was newer?

I’m looking to buy a decent second hand 1.5 ambiente with around 50,000km done.
Any comments regarding reliability or advice?
I see best prices are around R160,000
 
Check if all the services were done at ford, if not, no warranty. Also, buy something else. You can do better. Yes, I hate ford lately.

Make sure the fire extinguisher is included in the price.

1.5 petrol or diesel?

It is difficult to comment on the reliability as I am only able to provide my experience with the 1.0l

The biggest gripe I had is the amount of recalls to fix a few things, including a water seal leak. Therefore, that is the first thing you need to check. Did the car go in for all the recalls. Otherwise, the car does what a car needs to do. It takes you from point A to point B. You sit slightly higher and the ground clearance is also nice. The boot might look small, but it has a lot of depth, so you are able to stack up a few things. You can fit a dishwasher into the boot if the seat are folded up. Tried and tested.

Then, the usual stuff to check. Was the car in an accident. Did it get all the services. etc etc.

Ambiente is only in petrol.
 
As mentioned, check on services and warranty status. I would also include the extended Ford SA warranty as part of a finance deal (or better, cash) as it will extend the current warranty to 6yrs 200 000km for only R6k - I will be buying mine cash next year.

My wife's car has been great. There is a known issue whereby the C Pillar's lose rigidity and creaking occurs where they meet the roof. This was expertly resolved by a bodyworks, through Ford Service, who dropped the roof lining and inserted a special solution which hardened and increased the stiffening - no grinding or welding. I inspected the entire inside of the vehicle when it was given back to me and nothing is out of place. I know of 2 other Ecosport's who had to have this stiffening done.

Other than that, ours is going in for its rear door to be set as it is rattling - but that is probably because my wife moers it closed, much to my irritation.

I would not hesitate to buy an Ecosport again. The 1.5 returns sub 9l/100km in town and SO has a heavy foot like me. Parts are cheap (I replaced a door panel @ R2700 complete after it got scratched and a taillamp after the car wash hit it with a high pressure hose - that was R1.2k.)
 
Ford EcoSport leads compact crossover/SUV charge in SA

In the compact crossover/SUV market, the Ford EcoSport established itself as a segment leader. The SUV also regularly appears as a top-10 contender among best-selling vehicles in South Africa.

In October 2017, the EcoSport again underlined its tag as another fan favourite when 1047 units were sold. The Hyundai Creta, which slots into second position, barely reached the 400-mark with only 395 units finding new owners.

Making an impact

Lauded for its good all-round package, the Mazda CX-3 managed to make the podium in third place after securing a sales total of 294 units.

The Renault Captur captured the interest of 229 buyers last month, beating the funky Suzuki Ignis (129 units) in fifth place. Honda’s BR-V was sixth with 95 units sold.

The giant-slaying Suzuki Jimny ended the month on 88 units sold, just edging out the Opel Mokka X (83 units) in eighth place.

Mitsubishi’s ASX is in ninth place with 53 units, one ahead of the Mahindra KUV100 (52 units) in tenth.

EcoSport 1.0 EcoBoost Trend ENGINE FAILURE :

So Sunday after returning home from a quick trip to the V&A Waterfront the girlfriend said her car is idling funny. Come Monday morning when she started the car the " engine malfunction indicator lamp " goes on - she drives the car to the nearest Ford dealer which is like 5km. Dealership says she must leave it there and they will only be able to tend to it Tuesday.

Tuesday - today : Dealership contacted her and said the engine will need to be replaced. This will be done under warranty - something about compression too low in engine etc . No timeline yet and no courtesy car available.

1.0 EcoBoost 2015 model with 42000 Km on it now, bought brand new.

What to do ? Needless to say she is very disappointed.

Make a scene and demand a courtesy car, engine replacement can take weeks!

She has a better chance of getting pregnant and going on maternity leave. Of all the times my car was at Ford, I never once could get a courtesy car. I have been told in other threads, that they are not obligated to give you one.

@joshuatree Be glad they didn't give you shit first, before agreeing to fixing the car under warranty. :(
