Formula 1 2007

there car was fast but alonso made it faster look at his team mate for those 2 years

he did poorly which means he was either lacking or the car was driven well by alonso

Lol @ alonso and hamilton comparisons

Hamilton and Alonso are pretty evenly matched if you take the facts into consideration...
...Same car!! (surprise surprise)

Secondly, considering Hamilton has never raced F1 before this season, Alonso should be way ahead of him... but isn't!

Give credit where it is due... even if it isn't a Ferrari!
For sure, he is talented behind the wheel, but as a person, I personally am not impressed :)

Don't believe everything you read in the media! At least he didn't discuss using the Ferrari data with the test driver.
I prefer a guy who does his talking on the track.

Exactly... and this year he didn't make it faster against a rookie!

well brad i think its more a case of alonso not liking his car, but he loves it now and is showing hamilton what F1 is about

its not about landing in the butter, its about fighting and guts

hamilton will never win the world championship unless alonso crashes or breaks down

Have to agree if Alonso has no DNF's for the rest of the season and no punctures or anything, I think he will win his 3rd championship in a row.

The next Schummie?:)

No I doubt that, hopefully never have another one of those in F1 :D . But 3 championships in a row with 2 manufactures in quite an achievement whether you like him or not you have to respect him for that. People seem to forget he is still the youngest race winner and world champion.

Alonso's last two championships would somewhat deflect from the deep pockets argument

Are you suggesting that the Renault F1 teams budget is similar to the mid-pack teams? Renault F1 might not pay it's drivers the same high amounts that teams like Ferarri and Mclaren are, but that in no way means Renault F1 is a team with a low budget.

During the first season the only competition that Alonso had, had been Raikonnen who had an extremely unreliable car (which frequently lost it's rear wing for no apparent reason). And the second season his Championship was won due to a blow out on the Ferarri engine. Just to support the statement made prior by Saule, this doesn't remove the fact that Alonso is an exceptional driver. I recognized him not when he won the championship, but the moment he placed a back of the grid Minardi on 10th place in Germany. He frequently out qualified many higher up teams, despite the fact that he never got a point for Minardi, he still showed he does have the skill required to race.

Think Hamilton would have been able to finish a Minardi as high as tenth? Or perhaps place a Torro Rosso in the points? I highly doubt it. There is no comparison between Alonso and the Gift horse boy. Alonso earned his place, that rookie got a hand out in a plagiarized fast car.

That he out did Alonso in a few races doesn't mean anything most of the time it was due to the fact that Alonso had more fuel in the car, and secondly he made some uncharacteristic errors in the start of the season, and no, it's not because Gift horse boy put so much pressure on him, he has and always will be more concerned with the likes of Raikonnen.

And Brad, as far as I know...neither did Hamilton bring forward information to gain immunity...which kinda places him below Alonso in the moral standing.

True. Take it the other way round: Toyota have one of the largest budgets for f1 but have won what?

Formula One is more than 90% about the car you drive and less than 10% is about driver skills.

Based on the Toyota money fact, what would your opinion be now?

;)

I just don't find him the "little angel" he himself portraits (along with the media) - but hey, we all have our friends an enemies! :)
But as can be seen here http://www.planetf1.com/story/0,18954,3263_2737504,00.html, quite a few arn't impressed!

I'm too slowly changing my opinion on him. And thanks to Mark Blundell (the plick):

quote: 'Even Mark Blundell, president of the aforementioned ITV club, seems to be taking the approach that it's a lot of fuss about nothing'

Nothing?!?! the dumb donkey should get his head out of the clouds too!

The championship leader is getting 250 000 pounds PA.
Raikonnen gets 22 000 000 (22 mil) pounds PA
eish

My opinion still stands ;) I'll explain why.

The main components of my previous comments were as follows:
  • Speed
  • Reliability
  • Fair amount of money

I in no why equated amount of finances directly with performance. Looking at the above list, you've got to realise that you can have all the money in the world, but that money ain't gonna grow hands and legs to build you a fast realiable car --> the team management has to put those finances to good use by hiring excellent car designers and others to put it all together:) So it would seem that the component behind speed and realiability is missing in Toyota because they lack extraordinary talent behind the scenes:p

Toyota is maybe an exceptional case. They are only in F1 for brand marketing purposes if you ask me. They should revisit their plan and keep in mind that results are what the fans want. Poor Ralphie will probably be axed for next season.
Till this year, I was thinking the same about BMW, but they are slowly starting to show progress in the right direction. Maybe Ralphie can get his old job back.:)

Don't you think though from a management point of view, the Toyota people can't be too happy with their results? Unless the marketing revenues outweigh their results revenues.
I agree, Ralfie is gonna be a gonna next season!! and IF Alonso does return to Renault, then Fisi will be keeping Ralfie company!
