Fortuner - which one?

3.0 D4D, you probably looking at 100k on the clock or more, they bulletproof high mileage ones still sell for pretty penny.

Inside is very out dated, but you can fit a aftermarket android unit to make it slightly better.

My girlfriend sold her Series I Facelift 3.0 D4D for R230k odd last year but it had around 170k km's on the clock. A great SUV despite the industrial 3.0 D4D engine and 4 speed automatic gearbox, it was just too much of a hijack risk for her.

As much as I like automatic, the automatics in those are ancient 4 speed ones  The 2.5 has 85% of the power the 3.0 has so its not much a difference. They're all bulletproof. And to be fair the 3.0 D4D isn't much lighter on fuel than the V6. Take into account the fact that the diesels need to be serviced every 10k km and the petrol is 15k km the fuel consumption hurts even less ;)

Well my 2.8 diesel gets 8-9l / 100km so I would imagine the 2.4 even less, and you're not going to get anything remotely close to that in the 4l V6 petrol - to the point that I'd say the extra consumption really will hurt, especially on long trips.

I have a 2.4 GD6 now and I have to drive real nice to get under 10. My dad got about 14-15 on the 4.0. But then again I guess it helps working for a petroleum company.

I mean so what if you need to spend another grand a month on fuel. At this price point I don't think too many people are hard-up for a grand. It's not a car you buy with any engine to be the cheapest mode of transport.

Definitely good value IMO. I'd be open to one of these... how does the rest of the forum feel?
What about the engine variant? That said, I do like the third row seat option in the Fortuner.
Take one for a ride and tell us

Strange, just average driving in the 2.8 with a mix between highway and urban definitely get 8-9l / 100km - mostly level roads not much load though. But yeah, a heavy foot pushes it up.

It all depends on your driving profile - the difference between 8-9l and 14-15l per 100km can add up to a lot more than R1k pm for a lot of people.

I would not recommend the 2.4 auto. It's underpowered and the gear change is kark. 2.8 all the way but good second hand ones are expensive and scarce
There should be quite a few hitting the market over the next year or so - the first cycle of lease deals are ending around now and a new facelift is due in 2021.

3.0 D4D from back in 2010 was a beast. I had a hilux 3.0 D4D for work and the boss had the Fortuner. They were both strong as rocks, but the Fortuna's ride felt much smoother.

It's odd that we don't have any here in Norway despite the SUV & bakkie market being pretty good.
