Without the forum mybroadband.co.za as a website would cease to exist. I don't think any informed person intentionally comes here to get informed or get the latest news. If they do then I pity them. The forum is what makes this site bearable. All the colourful, weird and helpful forumites make the forum worthwhile. When you start "modding" the forum to such a degree that it's safe and suitable for PG13 ratings or simply to comply with your sponsors requirements and keep advertisers happy then you are starting to go backwards.

Yes and the next thing you see is a fanfare of Justin Bieber fan posts ... O deary me - please do not let this happen!

We need a poll ASAP!

Off the top of my head it could be because the litany of rbps you've been making are largely for words that consist of a series of asterixis. Since there is no discernible violation of the rules there is no need for any action to be taken by anyone, including yourself.

Cool, clarity. So we can actually swear on the forum, as long as we change one character to an asterisk. But not another letter, just an asterisk. F*king gotcha.

Additionally, some have been clear violations of bypassing the filter to insert the actual naughty word. Nothing has been done about it.

And I can't see how you can complain about there being a litany of RBPs - you guys created these ridiculous rules. Don't complain when someone reports infringements of the very rules in play, especially after earlier in the thread clarifying that infringements must be RBPd - it is encouraged. I began my RBP campaign only after you provided the suggested course of action. I don't see how I am doing anything wrong...

You're also not privy to warnings or infractions that have been issued to anyone other than yourself.

Some I am, including those I've RBPd...

Personally I think it only fair that a grace period be considered, the revised set of forum rules were only posted yesterday.

What revised rule in this respect? Infractions have been handed out for weeks prior to the OP, for supposed insults because "naughty words" were used, so how can there be any sort of grace period applied? A perfect example is where one tells someone else that they are biased, but adds the word '*****ing' before biased. The first is not infracted, the second is. The "naughty word" does not change the meaning of the sentence at all. Either that or the English language has changed since I last learned about it.

This has nothing to do with asterisks and swearing. This all goes back to a single thread that was started - a sermon - that was not deleted because of a mod's bias. Everything subsequent, including this thread, other infractions, and now bannings has to do with the jackboot brigade trying to stamp their authority down. It is punitive nonsense and only adds to level-headed people giving this forum the skip these days.

I'm in the same boat as others with regards to how this site is perceived - it is slowly devolving into a news24 comments section and is turning into a joke. Rational arguments are booted out because they typically involve a frustrated naughty word here and there, which is inevitable when dealing with trolls. Trouble-makers are encouraged, especially those who were previously banned. I don't know how many times the likes of UnoPanelVan, Basher, & jk8 have now been pointed out as clear trouble-maker clones, but they're given free reign. The forum has become so farcical that posts in ThreadKiller are now being infracted upon.

If rules are only here for a select few, then let us know who those few are, so that we can post accordingly...

Maybe myBB needs to a sub section where off topic and/or controversial threads and/or threads where the forums rules and regulations are being contravened can be moved.

Like a naughty corner... There, the parties intent on continuing their blasphemous behavior can do so without impacting other forumites.

Every thread is turning into a troll-fest these days. One can't have a decent CA debate without Haldex turning it into an anti-jew debate. abandonallhope has made it his/her mission to follow people around the forum and turn other threads on their heads on the basis of them not liking Windows 8. b@nd attempts to turn every thread into a conspiracy theory. DreamKing can barely post something without it being littered with bigotry & racism. All of them are previously banned clones. Jokes can't even be had in off topic threads any longer because inevitably a joke is at someone else's expense, and they're incapable (in general) of laughing it off.

All in all, trolls and thick twits are being protected more and more, as it seems that they now outnumber others, and we can't have the number of page impressions dropping...

Oh and plenty more. WTF is short for 'what the *****' right?

I know of a forumite who got an infraction for using the acronym 'wtf'. Mods didn't like his pro-SA tone much. They were more marine1 cheerleaders at the time...

Oh I thought WTF stood for "who's that faggot".

What's the stance on "F U"? Is that infractionable or not? I remember a forumite getting away with it and others not.

Edit: Faggot isn't censored? Hmmm, homophobic myBB is homophobic.

Having just read this thread (it was about rules, I couldn't resist), I feel the need to comment as follows:

The point of this thread is lost. The rules are fine, but what is patently in need of a fix are the persons tasked with enforcing these rules. Like an education lesson for mods about how to enforce the rules. In order words, the issue that prompted the thread isn't derived from the rules themselves. It is so misplaced to create this thread, as it shows that ones thinking is that it must be the users, those outsiders. This thread should be about introspection.

Mods are fallible human beings, and sometimes get it wrong. Getting it wrong is fine, but admit it and move along. Every one of us has an agenda or is biased on some way, and that's okay - but those in power need to recognise this and act accordingly.

The lack of enforcement of mods has led, I would argue, to mybb turning into a culture of destruction of information, instead of information sharing. It used to be my first stop to ask for help, but it isn't now. Regardless, I still try help those with legal queries where I can.

TL;DR: Train the mods, not the users.

Geez DJ has been edgy for the past 2 weeks, I think he's finally lost it.
@DJ acknowledge other people's opinions even if they differ from your own, everyone is entitled to their opinions even if they bizarre and irrational.

I disagree with you. He has always been like this but he rightfully queried a sermonising thread that should have been deleted immediately. Instead it spiralled out of controlled and it has ultimately resulted in this thread.

See IzZzy's post for sound advice.
