Free mobile Facebook bandwidth from MTN

Saw the small lil advert on the side of the page today. Won't be of much use for me, I don't have MTN data and my facebook usage is.... minimal.
 
The site does not work. Im on MTN and regularily browse facebook from my phone. I get the error, 'Origin Server returned 500 Status'

Anybody get the same error?
 
Oh GEEEZ. FINALY!!!! MTN have given something to the customer for free. I smell a rat.
 
those not getting anywhere and server errors, are you MTN customers or from one of the other colours?
 
Well i guess as time goes on they will figure it out.

After all MTN took the lead from Vodacom, because Voda used to be the one to take off new innovations. but now its the other way round. People like me are watching and soon we will be porting to MTN.

But what i hate is the fact the MTN ADVERTISE uncapped Broadband, but when your threshold limit is reached your speed is restricted to 128kbps. When MTN is reminded that 128kbps is not Broadband. they dont refuse the fact, rather they say that it is enough to check email, and browse social networks. Now thats LAME
 
I do stand to be corrected, but as far as I can see South Africa is NOT one of the countries currently being offered this service by MTN. On the Facebook blog they list a whole bunch of countries, but ours is absent (MTN, however do show up, but for other African countries).

Marketting fail maybe?

I just tried it. Get the same error. Seems like its not live yet or something.

It has an acceptable use policy of checking your news feed once a day and updating your status 4 times a week... anything above that you'll find the server will reject you
 
It's not working for me either. When it eventually starts working, do you think that it will matter which browser you use? I would like to use Opera Mobile instead of the build in one.
 
Why cant they give you the usual m.facebook.com free? That wasnt heavy on data by any means... now they have lightened it even more.
All in all its a huge waste of time. MTN will not loose out on anything from this. I suppose this new 0.m.facebook is probably like 4kB per page instead of 11 or 12?

Hopefully I can use Opera Mini! My phones built in browser is rubbish!

This is a very good question. Its not like m.facebook.com is a bandwidth hog to begin with.
 
It probably won't be available here in good ole SA, nothing is free here....
 
It's free cause it costs nothing. If i surf with no graphics etcon any site using opera mini, I end up paying about R2 for the whole week. Now how is that supposed to benefit me if I get it for free. If they wanna really give something for free they should allow free uploading, downloading and viewing of photos- that's where the real costs are

Come to think of it, you make a very good point here, but thats exactly why this is all marketing...spin doctors field day
