I too would have left my ballot paper blank like millions of French voters. Le Pen identifies right wing, but promises to implement radical left policies under the label of nationalism. What utter bogus. And then there's Macron, who is setting himself up to be a second Hollande with contradictory policies and silly political games. The Macron email leaks is very revealing, and having had a look at the circumstances surrounding the leaks, I'm inclined to say they're both authentic and should (but won't, not for now anyway) be very damaging for Macron. Naturally the media opposed Le Pen as she largely opposes them and these Macron leaks will likely die a silent death in France. Let's hope it doesn't - the truth must get out.

Political games much like what we saw with the DNC hacks is evident, but then we could have suspected the whole "trading BJs for favours" mentality exists in his camp (the mentality, no the act per se... I'm talking about politics as we have come to know if of course). Macron is a establishment man and very typical politically.
Buying cocaine (part of the emails, yes, among the initial ones from the same source), and potential links to pedophile activity (not himself, but his former boss with his knowledge and potential blessing/involvement). Some friends from my old full-time workplace inside IT security are saying this is basically DNC 2.0. Links to a pastebin page which linked to an archive of his emails were posted on 4chan. The initial archive has been taken down, but had a good chat to someone who actually saw the emails and analyzed them - looks 100% legit. WikiLeaks is investigating and hopefully we'll hear about this again...

I, of course, strongly disagree with the notion that these emails shouldn't be released, politically motivated or not. If it's the truth, then the general public deserves to hear it - it needs to come out.

And now we see facism is in reality actually on the left despite the media usually placing it on the right (check it out, you'll be shocked to find I'm right). You're not, though. Fascism has always been a right wing ideology. You get autocratic/totalitarian left wing ideologies, but they're not fascism.

And the right has never been for small government. Certain libertarians are, who can be on the right, but not the right generally.

I'll rephrase - Facism as it is defined in terms of its characteristics, in functional form.

The right in general wants to restrict governmental powers and interference while the left increases the volume of laws and reach of government. This general principle has existed since the start of modern right vs left politics.

Edit: if somebody brings up early French politics I'll call you a fascist...because that's now a common insult

The problem with conventional approaches to the left-right political spectrum is that they either fail to define the alternatives in question, or proceed to define them in terms of non-essentials.

That's a common perception, yes. But it's historically and contemporarily false. The right loves having government interfere in people's lives, except when it's about protecting minorities' rights or helping poor people, then it's evil.

They have a gigantic boner for anything in the military industrial complex, including the ever expanding military, which is essentially a massive welfare programme. They also ushered in the Patriot Act, including all the NSA shenanigans, invasion of privacy, attacks on civil liberties etc.
