Hi all,

So I got myself a Freshphone account with an 087 number. I'd like to use a softphone as my building only provides internet over wifi (not sure if there are any SIP phones that support wifi). I have tried various softphones, only to find they continuously crash, so I figured it must have something to do with the provider.

I've tried Zoiper, Blink, and Linphone, which all crash at some point (almost like I can do one thing, and then it no longer works), and I want to try 3CX, but the installer just sits doing nothing (checked in task manager, zero activity after 10 mins, and Windows Installer is working correctly).

Could it perhaps relate to the fact that my account has not been RICAd yet? I'm just waiting for them to approve.

Any insights would be great, thanks!

Yes, most likely.

Sorry, I didn't mention that calling does work. Using Zoiper on my phone works as expected, and it's only crashed once. Could it still be the case?

Try CSipSimple, I've also had issues with some sip apps but this one has always worked 100%

Edit: sorry, seems you want a program for desktop? I'm referring to mobile, but maybe CSipSimple is available for Windows also.

Zoiper on Windows Phone works, seemingly. If it gives me issues, I'll investigate. Thanks.

Hi - I am associated with Freshphone, I can assure you the RICA status and the functioning of your SIP client are not related. If your account was blocked due to RICA, you simply would not be able to make or receive calls. It would not have anything to do a crashing applications.

The best Softphone I have used is made by https://www.acrobits.net/, they have a business and consumer version for Android and IOS and it works with PUSH Notifications for receiving calls.

We have users using Zoiper, Blink, Bria without any problems or crashes, the issue may be related to your specific computer.

FYI we are releasing a new version within the next few months which has a built in WebRTC browser phone (with the option of using a locally installed SIP engine) all free and included in the product.

I suggest posting your issue on the Fresh PHONE forum at help.freshphone.co.za.

(I just had this long reply typed out, and then went and hit the wrong button; not going to retype the whole thing, sorry about that.)

Issues are more than likely related to my PC (privacy-freak here), and had some issues today after RICA was successful. Ticket opened with Freshphone, awaiting a response. Getting a new PC at some point anyway, and skipping out on Windows altogether.

Thanks.

Freshphone still hasn't responded to my ticket... Quite shoddy.

Nonetheless, the client at www.microsip.org does the trick. No problems so far! :D

I am 100% its not the provider which is causing your application to crash? I have never seen that in all my days of IT. Its more likely to be something on your operating system. If you log a ticket with freshphone they respond with a mail saying there is no commercial support (understandable considering its a free platform) instead they point you to use the forum which as far as I can see is fairly well modderated.
